I just thought I would put together a little post for all those contemplating the move to Cyprus and also to ask others why you love being here.

So here goes:

I love living in Cyprus because:

The sun has been shining ALL DAY and I feel great!

It's nearly 5pm and I am watching the sun go down over the med from my office window.

I sat outside and shared my lunch today with 2 dogs and 3 cats that aren't even mine.

I have a wonderful cirlce of friends who I have met here and adopted as my extended family.

I can walk down to my local kiosk after dark when I run out of milk without carrying my car key like a weapon!! (girls you know what I'm talking about!)

I can do my weekly food shop for 2 people for CYP20.00 (and we create some fabulous meals so forget your beans on toast!)

I can sit out late at night on my patio and look at millions of stars.

I have already planned my exercise regime for summer - lunchtimes are for swimming in the sea and catching a bit of sun!

I love Cyprus most of all because living here has shown me that there is more to life than worrying about the latest phone, the fancy car, the 3 extra bedrooms you are never ever going to use. I appreciate more the time I spend with others, the conversations I have with strangers who are interested in where you come from and want to practice their English with you.

I can think of loads of other reasons but don't want to rant on.

I love it here and I hope everyone else who decides to make the move will too.

I love cyprus because.... when I went to pay my parking ticket today.
The guy in the office smiled at me when I walked in his office, then said happy new year to me in greek, and in english said, how much
are you going to pay me !! then started to laugh
well it made paying the ticket a bit better

Peppermint, those are the same, simple, almost indefinable pleasures which we also enjoy. I also find that in Cyprus I feel much 'freer' as an individual. Not sure whether that's down to the millions of cameras watching you every day in the UK, or the plethora of officials and fluorescent jackets telling you how to run your lives, what to do and (increasingly) what to think, but somehow it just feels so good to be here.

We love Green Day too, in March, when we troop down to Ha Potami forest on the beach, where literally hundreds of tables and chairs are laid out and a stage for dancing is erected. You bring you're own food - even a BBQ if you want - desserts and drinks are provided by a local developer, there's Cypriot music and dancing and everyone has such a great time. It's a real family day out with lots of different nationalities, but we 'immigrants' are always made to feel very welcome.

In three years of living here I have not been met with anything other than kindness, courtesy and unbelievable hospitality from our host Cypriot nation. One day last year I stopped by an orchard in a village, where a Cypriot family were busy picking oranges and tangerines. I asked whether I could buy some oranges from them. The mother handed me a plastic carrier bag and motioned for me to get on with it. When the bag was nearly full I went to pay her. Instead of accepting payment she gave me another bag and urged me to go pick some tangerines...and then some grapefruits. Eventually, laden with about three carriers of fruit I again tried to pay her, but she refused to accept anything. Efharisto poli just seemed too small a 'thank you' from me, but it was all I could do. A Brit in the same village was telling me that whenever he has a problem, all the locals muck in with their tools and sometimes tractors to help him out. They're just wonderful people...and I love them to bits Lloyd

We have the same 'problem' where we live!

The locals don't even bother to knock anymore, they just leave the SACKS of fruit & veg' on the doorstep!!!

Most of my reasons have already been covered - for me the single biggest positive from living in Cyprus has been reclaiming the precious space inside my own head - for too many years I was so pre-occupied with work, possessions etc that life was pretty much passing me by.

Since I moved here I have much more time to relax and just enjoy being alive and savouring life's simpler pleasures - a few pints with a sea view after work in summer, reading good books, watching dramatic sunsets, clear starry nights etc etc.
