Well it seems if we don't get some significant rain soon then there'll be some serious shortages this year - has anyone experienced this in Cyprus previously?

How bad is it likely to get, and what sort of steps are the govt likely to introduce?

Just been reading about one possible solution - importing drinking water:

According to the ministry, as of January 1, 2008, the country's water reservoirs contained 25 million cubic meters of water, enough to last approximately two months. The current acute water shortage is said to have been caused by climate change, with rainfall in Cyprus dropping almost 20% in the last 35 years.

Banning the top of "pools" and irrigation from the mains drinking water might be a better first step.

I expect that this suggestion will be met from outcry from some but what would you rather have? No water for essentials or just no water full stop.

Yes, I know what I said to Pete about irrigation but it is up to the authorities to set appropriate policies in an emergency that apply to all.

Have you seen all the extra tanks sprouting on roofs and in gardens around over the last year or so?
