Just to inform people that we were broken into today whilst we were out. We think they were disturbed by the poolman as nothing was taken and they escaped through a bedroom window opposite from where they broke in through the patio doors looking onto the pool.

About 4 properties have been broken into in about the last year on our complex in Tremithousa. Each house was unoccupied at the time, so they are definitely keeping an eye on any properties for absent owners. Take precautions people!

The first thing we did when we retired here was have a burglar alarm installed. We are not on a complex, but an individual detached property.
I think after so many break-ins at your complex last year I would, if I had been you, done the same.
A good investment believe me; we also got a 10% discount on our home and contents insurance!

It would be good to take registration numbers of any cars that you are suspicious of in the area. As well as scooters/motorbikes.

Max I have been keeping my eyes open and clocking any strange vehicles around the complex since the second break in, but have seen nothing. No idea if they come around after dark, suspect they may. I'm usually indoors, locked and bolted down by dark!!

I have double locks on doors; shutters and central locks on windows, plus lights on timers when I'm away. Am investigating CCTV options as we speak! Any other suggestions gratefully received. I don't yet have a guard dog, but several quite viscious cats!! Haven't quite got them trained yet, as the scratches and antibiotics from the hospital can testify!!

I would say it must be done after first occurrence.

Given the lack of policing in our area, I'd say having a cctv system would be good for you to see who was the culprit, but of little use to the police as they do not follow-up on reported break-ins, or anything else in my experience!

I note british police are now adopting the same level of interest - must be too cold for the poor darlings to leave their nice comfy stations.

We have security shutters and locks on all windows, lights on timers and lights on sensor switches. Burglar alarm to boot but they still broke in!

They ‘lifted’ the patio door and entered that way. It has now been secured to prevent that happening again.

The police did attend, but, realistically, what can they do?

CCTV is now a thought, as is buying a shotgun!

Is your Burglar alarm a silent alarm?

It is a must have thing, but it needs to have a back-up battery in case of a power cut (or deliberate supply cable cut by the bad guys).
We have a silent alarm too that calls the local police.
Amos.
