I wonder why the US Coastguard didn't bother to alert a salvage company?

Surely recovery of the vessel (even for scrap) would be quite lucrative & also remove a hazard to shipping?

Why the Brits didn't follow up following their reported sighting also seems a little odd, just left it to the mercy of the seas!
