I thought this deserved its own topic and hopefully give you a boost when you are down, this is a true Hero in many senses, some of you may be aware of his deeds and some of you may not.

He is 100 on the 30th April - I salute this guy because so far he has raised £3 million pound and counting.

Piers Morgan launches campaign to get Captain Tom Moore a knighthood as WWII veteran raises £4million for NHS workers

He went on to say -

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Piers declared: ‘It suddenly came to me – would it be nice to see Captain Tom Moore, who served his country in World War II, and has now raised over £4million for the NHS in a week, wouldn’t it be great to see him knighted for his services to the country?

‘Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t feel temptation to give it to business people who pay money for the honour, we didn’t give it to celebrities for singing nice songs, but we give it to someone like him? That we make him Sir Tom?’ ‘I think that would be great,’ he added. ‘Let’s give him something back.’

Some people think Piers Morgan is like Marmite you either like him or hate him, he however in my opinion does a lot of good and says what we think, his latest is truly wonderful and I support him 100% lets hope he can achieve this.

This story has been covered on BBC Breakfast for some days now, so it's great to see Piers Moron jumping on the bandwagon and claiming the story as his own!

Fantastic thing that Captain Tom is doing though.

This is a remarkable achievement (and still mounting) and there is no question that some of the NHS staff are fully deserving of recognition for their selflessness during this crisis, but while acknowledging the old guy and the work of the front line staff at NHS UK, I nevertheless worry about the signals this sends out and what will happen to the cash raised. I fear that this will further deify the sacred cow that is the NHS, which before the start of this crisis, was a lumbering inefficient monolith of an organisation that was barely fit for purpose, making it even harder to reform when this crisis is ended. I fear that the money raised will simply be swallowed into the bottomless pit of the NHS, rather than go to rewarding those remarkable people who have put themselves in harm's way in some suitable tribute.

If you click the donate button on Tom's donation page, JustGiving do not deduct an admin fee, but invite donors to add 10% (prefilled in the donation form) to them. I suspect many donors will simply click through and do that. Nice work if you can get it.

For me what has been proved beyond a doubt
Is that we have one of the best dedicated NHS in the world
And that it is absolutely needed in the uk

These are unprecedented times and times that where not expected
If this money by Captain Tom raised goes towards our great NHS PPE protection
And towards all of drs and nurses mental and physical health as well

Then all hail to them

Our NHS needs funding and needs protecting
as these hard times of national crisis have shown

May every government from here on in respect and not forget this great much needed institution

Many of the funds donated to NHS Charities Together are then disseminated to charities to use at a local level - and that's where the kind of money raised by Capt Tom will be spent.
Donations since the pandemic started have been used to help set up wellbeing spaces in hospitals. These include sleep pods, reclining chairs and so-called "wobble rooms" - areas where staff have a safe space to release emotions after a traumatic experience, such as losing a patient.

Wellbeing packs including everyday items such as porridge, tea or hand cream have also been given to staff, which one charity member said was "like a hug in a box".
The money has also helped pay for electronic tablets that allow patients who are in isolation in hospital to have contact with their friends and family.
In the long term, the funds will be used in planning to allow people to leave hospital quicker and safely, and also provide mental health support for staff and volunteers involved in dealing with the pandemic.

This is a massive, massive amount and the Captain should be promoted, however with the goodwill he clearly set out with it has been exploded by others into a major issue. My concern is, just what is the purpose of the funds, how much will be lining pockets of admins, pen-ushers, hangers on etc and how much will actually be going to the sources he intended.

Yes he is a role model and an inspiration for others and I applaud him, however I believe it is his spirit and ethos that should be recognised not the amount of money.

£29 MILLION + as of this morning :banana :celebrate :clapping :celeb2

The 99-year-old war veteran who has raised £29m for the NHS by walking laps of his garden has been honoured with a special postmark.

Royal Mail will stamp all letters with the message to celebrate Captain Tom Moore's 100th birthday on Thursday.

All stamped post up until Friday will be marked with: "Happy 100th Birthday Captain Thomas Moore NHS fundraising hero 30th April 2020."

Royal Mail said it was "honoured" to issue the postmark.

World War Two veteran Capt Tom, from Marston Moretaine in Bedfordshire, has extended his challenge to 200 laps after he completed the first 100 laps 14 days ahead of schedule.

His initial £1,000 fundraising target was broken in about 24 hours and he has now raised more than £29m for the NHS.

A train has been named after Captain Tom Moore in honour of his fundraising achievements during the Covid-19 crisis.

The war veteran has raised £29m for the NHS by walking 100 laps around his garden.

The Great Western Railway (GWR) intercity express train 800025 will go into service carrying its new name on Thursday, Captain Tom's 100th birthday.

GWR said the high-speed train would carry key workers to and from work.

It said the naming followed requests from the public.
