54 years ago today I arrived at my posting to Episkopi Cyprus.
This was the beginning of two summers of love. I was drafted straight into the regimental band due to my experience as a musician in civvy street. My newly wed Wife joined me some weeks later and we spent the rest of that summer in the Troodos Mountains entertaining at the forces leave camp.
The following year was the 'Summer of Love' and once again Troodos listening to and playing some of the fabulous music in that summer. We left Cyprus in September 67 for me to attend The Royal Military School of Music on Saxophone. It was 30 years before we returned.

You're quite correct, my brother an already serving NCO told a senior NCO in the regimental band about me which led to me being invited to join the regimental band as they needed to get up to date and form a 'Beat Group' (as they were called back then). My experience on the scene back in the UK what why I was invited. I played Bass in the Beat group and dance band, I took up Saxophone in the regimental band.
We left Cyprus in September 1967 for me to attend the Royal Military School of Music 'Knellar Hall' on Bb tenor Saxophone.

Regularly on the CSE shows in Cyprus.
Back in the UK in 63 we lost the support slot to the 'Beatles' and ended up supporting 'Screaming Lord Sutch' instead.
I met my wife through gigging in 63. All our 54 years of married life together has been music it has never been a problem with her.
