The travel expert Simon Calder was on GMB TV this morning and on an Easy Jet flight from London I think to Scotland. The cost had tripled!! Is this the end of cheap flights and therefore cheap holidays?

I have recently booked flights with Lufthansa for later in the year and the tickets are noticeably cheaper than last year!

Lets hope they have the planes to fulfil the route as they are shedding 22,000 jobs and 100 planes.

What is this about hand luggage must go in the hold, and you must pay £25 for it each way! I assume in time flights will come down but it is no surprise they will be high at the moment, I am waiting to see what is on offer Paphos /Tallinn in the past by Ryan air.

I know that most, if not all, airlines are discouraging or banning hand luggage as the overhead lockers are said to be the places most likely to harbour traces of the virus. I have not heard of any charging to put hand luggage in the hold (given that you have paid for the weight in the cost of your ticket). Who is charging £25?

I was just curious. I'm no expert and, unfortunately, have to rely on the Daily Mail for a lot of news!

it would seem that the airlines and holiday companies are always looking for ways to introduce what are the same a stealth taxes.
When we first started visiting Cyprus again after many years hold luggage up to a certain weight was free as were transfers from airport to hotel. On half board soft drinks, tea, coffee etc were free with evening meal. now even water is charged for in the half board hotels that we've stayed in.
Ryan Air at one stage were even planning to introduce a charge for using in flight toilets.
Wouldn't surprise me if they started charging for transfers from departure and arrival lounges.

Just been looking at Lufthansa as I want to go to the UK for Christmas shopping in November.

Return economy flights are from €150 or business class on the same flights for €360 with prebooked seats, priority boarding, lounge access, 2 x 32Kg suitcases, plus 2 x 8Kg carry on bags - 80Kg in total!, plus middle seat always empty, decent meals on proper crockery with metal cutlery and real glasses and unlimited drinks, including champagne!

That sounds plenty good enough for me.

Yes, you have to fly from Larnaca and change planes, usually in Munich, Frankfurt, Vienna or Zurich, but those airports are pretty much en route and you can spend your time sitting in the lounge and charging your phone/tablet up for the next flight.

As a comparison, Easyjet on the same dates is €275 with booked seats and 1 26Kg suitcase, Ryanair €215 with 1 suitcase, Jet2 €390!
