State health services organisation (Okypy) on Tuesday said it launched a probe after one employee at Limassol general hospital, found positive to coronavirus, seems to have returned to work before his test results were ready.
The man, who works as a member of the auxiliary staff at the hospital’s cardiology clinic, is said to have arrived from a trip to a category B country last Saturday and seems to have returned to work before his test results were out.
The hospital was informed the man was positive to the virus on Monday.
Okypy spokesman Charalambos Charilaou told state broadcaster CyBC the case is being investigated.
He said the man’s contacts at the hospital were very few and that cardiology patients have already been tested and will be tested again to make sure they do not have the virus.
Charilaou said the cardiology clinic, after being disinfected, continues to operate, while new admissions will be made but in a separate area.
According to the protocol, people arriving from category B countries need to self-isolate until their PCR test results are out.
In the case of hospital workers, they need to self-isolate and retest seven days after the first test to make sure they do not have the virus before going back to work.
The man was among the 23 new coronavirus cases announced on Monday.
