202 new cases Track and trace can no longer track who has been in the contact with positive cases The cat now is out of the bag https://cyprus-mail.com/2020/10/17/coro ... announced/ What is so sad ...is that Cyprus had this all under control The choice was a hard one...did they let flights continue to come in...or shut down! Stay safe everyone Hands....Face.....Space |

Increase in positive cases not just due to incoming flights - people who live in Cyprus are also contributing to the spread of the virus and by not even keeping to the basic rules I anticipate harsher measures in the next few days and weeks. |

Another FULL LOCKDOWN for about 6 weeks works for me It seems to be the only thing to do to get people to follow the simple rules, stop being selfish and get us back on track |

It comes as absolutely no surprise to me. So many times I have had to move away from people in supermarkets, or tell them to back off. I know I'm fabulous but please, keep your distance! |

According to Dr Joseph Moutiris.....Head of Cardiac in Paphos General ..Professor if Nicosia...and front line working Dr for covid 19 ...the hospital ward that they where using In the early pandemic for covid 19 patients was closed down in May and is now not ready And no where is ready in Paphos for any patients either I shake my head in disbelief at lack of preparation Stay safe all |

I was watching the BBC news at lunch time toady, I was very surprised when the reporter mentioned Cyprus, they say that the cases were rocketing now I see it is true hence this new thread, I can understand the UK cases rising but not Cyprus, what has gone wrong? I thought Cyprus was fairly safe obviously not. |

I thought Cyprus was fairly safe obviously not. It is simple why our cases are rising from zero We opened up ...the virus kept flying in..one lady flew in from the States and started a large chain of infection.....a lot of people forgot their protocols Or some even refused to follow protocols even when they where covid positive A 60 strong squad of Footballers , trainers etc ...arrived back from Greece ...and stared smaller chains of virus in Larnaca Limassol has had many chains lots from coffee shops and bars We watch older expats in a Peyia all of the time ....all hugging each other ...no distancing ....no masks.. Silently the virus has been spreading by Asymptomatic....and of course this leads to symptomatic cases ...which leads to hospital and sadly will and can lead to death This last week numbers have been doubling.....the 104 cases of a few days ago ...needed a track and trace of 2500 individuals ....how much partying and socializing are some of those people with the virus doing? And then of course two days later we jump to over 202 new cases ...we haven,t even tracked and traced the ones from a few days earlier And still people are carrying on as if nothing is going on The worst bit for Cyprus ...is Cyprus really is not medically prepared for what is happening They closed down the units they had been using in March and have not taken steps to prepare for a much worse second wave Cyprus is is still open to many airlines....they need the tourism We are isolating and shielding....keeping away from it all as much as we can The island needs to shut down rapidly to get the cases that we have got ...back under control Before the covid wards and our small ICU become over run This is today’s update ...63 cases so far today....that number normally goes up...by the end of the day .....but look how many cases in 28 days ...and the age groups affected We need tighter controls https://cyprus-mail.com/2020/10/18/coro ... on-sunday/ |

Hi Migmogs, thank you your explanation, by the looks of things you are now starting to catch up with the rest of the world (idiots), without going off topic the UK is doing the same. In one thread I commented about what could happen, I said be careful what you wish for, sadly this has come home to roost, all I can say lets hope the Cypriot authorities sort this out (quickly). Keep your head down. |
