Benefits Britain and millennial Kids

I called into the Haris this morning for a meeting with Savvas (forum sponsor).
3 female single parent mums with 10 yes 10 kids between them aged from about 7 to 14 came in for breakfast.
They were sitting closeish to me (social distancing was observed) and I overheard the conversation they were having with a couple of ex-pat OAP’s
OAP’s :- “How is your holiday going?”
Mum 1 :_ “ Fantastic, we rented a villa for 3 weeks and it’s been great, still got a week to go”
OAP’s “ Gosh that must have been expensive”
Mum 2 “Not too bad but the kids needed a break from all the covid ‘stress’ in England…probably couldn’t have done it if it weren’t for the benefit payments” :huff

Incidentally, ALL the kids had iphone 10’s or 11’s :doh

Very interesting.

For those who do not follow the UK news Marcus Rashford (Manchester United footballer) now MBE has been championing free school meals for kids, he wanted it extending to cover the half term (next week).

There was a vote in Parliament and it was voted down, the vote went as follows 322 against and 261 for, what does that tell you, now the public have taken up the challenge and have helped, one MP has said that the reason why he voted against the motion was the government are providing assistance through additional benefits.

Depending on who you listen to - they say that money does not go to the children, the parents use it for other uses, I wonder if it has gone to taking kids on holiday, only a thought!

Mad , I do feel what you described is all too common along with other " I am entitled " issues, think these ladies need to keep there legs shut, where is acting responsibly, more money they need the more they claim . So glad I'm not paying into the UK system.
P.s. covid stress !! That motley crew are the countries future :puke

I think that one issue is overlooked here, there are 3 families who have pooled together to rent a villa were only one family would normally rent, as there are 13 of them some of the kids will probably be sleeping on sofas etc.
I know that there are flight costs but no one knows how much they paid for them nor how much the villa cost.

IF it's the Villa I am thinking about that is within walking distance of The Haris and sleeps 12 it cost €318 per night (€6,678 for 3 weeks)

It doesn't alter the fact that they can afford to have a 3 week holiday in Cyprus on benefits

Any more evidence about these people or just more hearsay?

Only what I heard when I was sitting 'socially distanced' beside them, directly from them and not via a third person

This snippet of information causes problems.
None of us know anything about these people but they are being judged as though they have been on benefits all their lives, they may have husbands at home who may have had well paid jobs before the virus and Brexit etc and are currently looking for work as they were not present. Their holiday may have been paid for last year, they may have wealthy grandparents etc
Comments like what Mouse said "they should keep their legs shut" is out of order but typical, some people like large families, Roman Catholics are encouraged to have them.
Wind your necks in and let people get on with their own lives.
Not too long ago people on here were saying that Cyprus including the Harris bar desperately needs tourists, but only of a certain type it seems.

You are correct in your first 2 sentences, however a bit of a giveaway was the statement “ Probably couldn’t have done it if it weren’t for the benefit payments” :doh

" some like large families " fine if you can afford it or the local church will subsidise you . Live within your means . I agree my comment towards the ladies was too sharp as you rightfully say I don't know them.

Having reread the entire thread , UncleD was correct, my comment about the ladies was out of order and I retract it completely, I apologise.
