30th November I posted a parcel and some cards to friends in Cyprus, the parcel left the UK on the 1st December and still has not got to where it was meant to go to.

After several phone calls I was told that there is a massive backlog at the distribution center in Larnaca, this is due to a strike by Greek and Cypriot Air Traffic controllers which lasted 4 days, after a very helpful lady in Royal Mail she told me that the chances of it being delivered this year are slim.

I believe it was about delayed wage payments, lucky they have jobs, so if you are waiting for your mail that is the answer.

This week I've received 2 parcels posted in the UK using regular Royal Mail on Dec 1st so I guess it's the luck of the draw!

Don't know where you 'heard this' however the Cyprus Mail covered the story:-

Lack of flights delaying post to and from 54 countries

Mail arriving from or being sent to 54 countries will be delayed over the Christmas period due to the inability to find air carriers during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the Cyprus Post announced on Monday.
The affected countries are: Egypt, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, France, Germany, Georgia, Denmark, Switzerland, Greece, Estonia, USA, United Arab Emirates, Thailand, Japan, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Iraq, Ireland , Israel, Italy, Canada, Kenya, China, Korea, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Morocco, Great Britain, Bahrain, Norway, South Africa, Netherlands, Oman, Ukraine, Pakistan, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Sweden, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Czechia, Philippines, Tanzania, Finland and Hong Kong.

There is always a backlog of mail at this time of year, but I think the story in the Cyprus Mail is correct in that the post is actually stacked up in the UK are there aren't sufficient flights into Cyprus to bring all the post over.

If you check the Hermes Larnaca page, there are only two flights from the UK today and the same tomorrow. With passenger luggage and other freight that has to come over, it is hardly surprising that there are delays.

Things appear to be taking about 32 days to arrive from the uk to here at the moment
But
Things are at last getting through

We have had quite a few Christmas parcels arrive over the last couple of days through Royal Mail
Typical .....That the Christmas gifts that I have ordered for my great other half
Are not here yet and I ordered them mid to late November

Fingers crossed they all arrive before the big day next week

Stay safe

Merry Christmas all :christmas :christmas :christmas :christmas :christmas :christmas :christmas

Perhaps people need to be encouraged to use a courier in future when a parcel is time critical?!

I am going to start to use RSS containers

You post direct to Cresswells Relocation Services in the uk
And then for a small cost they bring over here to RSS in Peyia

A great service that I have used a few times now...and will definitely use again

Merry Christmas everyone

Personally I would never use RSS, but try LHUKCY, they are pretty reliable and have a regular service from UK to Cyprus.

RSS are 2 minutes away from where I live LHUKCY are quite a drive away

RSS have also given me excellent and cheap postal services to here with nothing to complain about ...Andrea gives a phone call as your parcel arrives ....all goods bought in the uk ...can be sent direct to their sister company in the uk Cresswells ..all arrives there with your name on and their address ...and 3 weeks later is here in Peyia ...perfect for me ...and no traveling

I've been using Lee at LHUKCY for years (must be over 10 years), never once had a problem and always pleasantly surprised by his reasonable charge. No point in changing when on to a good service.

Normally I do not have a problem with post or parcels from the UK to Cyprus, this time it was a triple whammy, the Virus , flights and secondly the Greek & Cypriot air traffic control going out on strike, also a work to rule at Larnaca handling, but never mind it got there eventually.

I do not know if you are aware, if you do then there are others who do not. You can track your parcels using 2 different sites, they are as follows.

https://www.cypruspost.post/en/home

The contact there is a lady called Dora Elpidoforou - Postal Officer, if you have any problems just contact her via the site, she will get back to you, she got back to me within a couple of days, told me what the delay was all about and kept me fully informed.

The next site is called Universal Tracking, it is an international tracking site and is very good, (automated site only)

Electronic form needs to be filled out before sending a parcel

The Cyprus Post announced on Tuesday that from January 1, people wishing to send parcels abroad must fill out an electronic form with all the necessary information before going to the post office.

This requirement is due to international obligations and applies to all items containing goods sent to non-EU countries as well as items sent through the parcel, EPG, EMS Datapost services, regardless of destination and content.

From January 1, people wishing to send parcels abroad will need to fill out the shipment request with information on the postal item.

The creation of the shipping request is the responsibility of the sender. Prior to posting a parcel in any of the above ways, the shipment request must be prepared in advance by the senders through the ‘Shipping Tool’ application.

The Cyprus Post said people must fill out the shipment request forms before going to the post office. Senders do not need to print anything in advance but write the reference number that will be given by the ‘Shipping Tool’ application on the object they wish to send.

“Postal officers at post offices are prohibited from completing any shipping request forms on behalf of customers,” it said.

The Cyprus Post called on people to cooperate so that the processing of items is done properly and quickly.

Instructions on how to fill out the form and a link to the form may be found athttps://www.cypruspost.post/en/shipping-tool
