The Sound of Music was on UK TV last night (New Years Eve), it brought back happy memories of the two summers that we spent in the Troodos Mountains entertaining at The Troodos HMForces Leave Camp. One of the most popular selections that we played was 'The Sound Of Music'.
We left Cyprus shortly after the Summer of 67 for me to attend The Royal Military School of Music in London. We didn't return to Cyprus until 1998.

I think that the true story is that you were asked to leave the island in 1967 and not allowed to return until 1998 until you promised never to play the “ the sound of music “ again

Only joking, happy new year to you all.

Neil

One of my most unhappy memories of childhood was being dragged to the pictures to watch musicals, because of those traumatic experiences I hate them especially the sound of music, though it seems to keep old women and gay men happy :crylaughin

I was so lucky to have been a military musician in Cyprus during the 1966/7.
The joy of playing so many different genres of music was incredible.
Orchestral both classic and popular.
Dance Band.
Guitar Group.
Even Background Trio.
Military Parades occupied less then 10% of our time. Adjutants and RSM's parade on Friday and Saturday.
Everyday was military band, dance band or rock band.
Every weekend extra duty pay with the Dance Band and Beat Group
Instruments were very cheap compared to the UK and you could take them back to the UK duty free if you were trade tested.
I paid £107 in Limassol for a Bass Guitar that I sold for £3,000 20 years ago.

I am not sure if the Sound of Music has ever featured in the Gay Manuals that I have read. However, I do enjoy the movie!
