I was watching a business report on how the EU was coping with the pandemic and Cyprus was mentioned, it said last year its debt was running at minus 93% of GDP, it went on to say along with Spain, if tourism does not pick up this year then Cyprus could be bankrupt, it also went on to say where as Spain does export goods, Cyprus is not in that position to do so.

On the news this morning, it was still being debated by MP,s that, unless the EU infection rates do not drop then the UK will still enforce travel bans, this will be a hammer blow to Cyprus as the majority of its tourists are from the UK.

What also stood out was the EU has not got the financial clout it once had, especially the UK no longer pays into the pot financial aid to the likes of Cyprus is not as readily available.

I think for a lot of countries that rely on tourist, it will be squeaky bum time.

You are not really telling us anything we don't see in the local papers or hear on the news here.

They are even making radical suggestions that to help the economy here, people could
Pay their income tax
Pay back their loans
Pay their road tax
Etc etc

With all the Cyprus doom and gloom, Do you still intend moving over? :crylaughin

Hi Dave,

What I was saying is this is the first time I have ever heard on UK news about the Cyprus Debt, so it must be serious, the report then led onto the looming financial crisis in the EU bloc, and the countries like Italy, Spain and Cyprus not getting money from them.

As for coming back hell yes, that is if Cyprus wants people back into their country.
