May I ask the members for urgent help. Yesterday at 2Pm UK time I got a garbled phone call from my pension friend Paul who lives in upper Peyia, he was very stressed and told me he had been admitted to Hospital with blood clots, he says it was his cleaner who called for the ambulance then the line went dead, Paul is 79 this year and he has not been in the best of health needless to say I am very concerned. I have tried ringing him but his mobile is switched off, I have tried his home phone just rings, Paul never switches his phone off, his cleaner/carer is a lady called Mandy, does anyone know her phone number so I can ring her and find out what has happened. A few months ago Mandy, was going to give Paul her number but due to what is going on at the moment she must have forgotten or Paul has, if anyone knows of this lady can they please PM with more information Thank you Ian |

I can't help with the number you are asking for, but have you tried phoning the General Hospital on 26 803100 as that is where emergency cases should be sent? |

Hi all, Bit of good news and bit of bad, I have found out where Paul is, I managed to speak to him (briefly) then the nurses would not him talk for long, someone told him I was trying to track him down so he rang me, whoever that was wishes to remain anonymous so thank you to that person. Mandy cleans villas for the rental market, she lives alone with many cats, that is all I know of her, but I do know she is a very nice lady and looks after Paul and he thinks a lot about her. Paul was found collapsed unable to breath properly properly, he was rushed to the General where he spent 2 nights in intensive care(hence phones switched off) he has been transferred to a ward, will remain there till he is able to breath unaided, at the moment he is on Oxygen. The diagnosis, he had blood clots on his lungs, do not know any more at the moment, the nurses stopped him talking. His 2 dogs are being looked after by a chap called Steve who is ex RAF, so if he reads this thank you. Will keep you all updated as I hear more. Thanks to all. Ian |

Well what can I say apart from thanks to people on this forum, as Dave quite rightly said, this is what you are about, when we need help you spring into action. The doctors (Dr Molly's PA has been in touch and told me that they have spoken to the hospital and he has a serious medical problem, he has had a pulmonary embolism, which basically are blood clots on his lungs. He is in a stable condition but very poorly, he is in the right place and should recover, but it will be a long struggle because he is 78 and has underline health problems. I have had a couple of personal messages from members and I would not embarrass them by naming them, they know who they are and I would like to say from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU for your help. Will keep you posted as to how he gets on. Again Thank you Ian |

Thought I would give you all an update on how Paul is getting on. Thanks to the members I am now in regular contact with Mandy who is doing a fantastic job, she is in touch with the hospital and knows what Paul needs and takes it up to the reception obviously she cannot go in. I have managed to speak to Paul and he is very poorly, but should make a recover, he will be in hospital for at least another week, he is on Oxygen he will be on Oxygen until his blood Oxygen levels increase and be able to breath unaided, until then he is going nowhere. Paul has in the past suffered from deep vein thrombosis, we thought he had got over that but apparently it has come back, it obviously travelled up to his lungs hence the embolism. My daughter who deals with type of problem says, they have caught it time, they will use anticoagulants to keep the blood thin preventing blood clots and may well given his age be on them for the rest of his life. Will keep you all updated as I hear more. |

2 April Update. Good news all round, Paul is making a good recovery and is off forced Oxygen, he should be released next week once he gets compression stockings, he would have had them sooner but you have had a bank holiday so there is a delay. Will have to have a Oxygen machine installed for a couple of weeks and regular medical help for a few weeks, so all things considered he is heading in the right direction. More to follow. |

Final Update. Great news, Paul was discharged from hospital yesterday afternoon, had a good nights sleep in his home and feels better, he has to stay on Oxygen for a few weeks and has a nurse who will come in twice a day to help him, but time is a great healer and if he behaves himself will improve but never will be the same. Downside, he has to have a life style change, but I suppose that comes to us all as we get older. Anyway thanks for all those who helped and thanks for the personal messages. |
