‘Pinged’ at airport for outstanding fine My neighbour’s son (permanent resident) was ‘pinged’ at Paphos airport when he was flying to the UK on Wednesday. He had an outstanding speeding fine from 2019 (€60) but because it hadn’t been paid, it had a fee for late payment and accrued interest It cost him €110 which had to be paid before immigration would clear him to travel off the island He also said that another passenger had to pay an outstanding ‘covid related’ fine… |

Good for them ! About time it happened everywhere. Reminds me when they had me at the Nicosia walk over crossing to the North. I showed my passport and they said " Ah problem! Told me my car reg which was correct and said I had been caught speeding some two years ago. It was something like the equivalent of €60 but in Turkish lira. I only had euros which they wouldn't accept nor debit card so they kept my passport and allowed me through to the closest exchange hut |

It is a few years since my daughter and son in law lived in the occupied north. Certainly even back then speed cameras were connected and the police computer system worked very well. Strange ! In the south they have not yet managed that feat ! |

Offenders of any sort are on the system anyway and even if he hadn't been 'pinged' he'd probably have got stopped at passport control - I've seen it happen! |

Ah yes Dave it must have been 7 or 8 years ago! There was another time when we were returning from the North and unbeknown to us they had not stamped the paper visa in my husbands passport nor had they entered it on the system when we entered so they said to him "where did you come from?" He said from that car with my wife and friend . Luckily they believed us and let him through!! |
