Police on Wednesday warned of a new SMS scam where criminals pretend to represent transport, shipping and receiving companies.

The fake text messages allegedly from courier companies inform people of the arrival of parcels.

The message includes a link, that asks for recipients’ personal details and their credit card details for the payment of a small fee so that the item can be delivered to them.

Thus, the perpetrators can extract available funds from the victims’ accounts.

Police advise the public to be especially careful and confirm the authenticity of the SMS sender and any such websites.
