Got a friend who has bad ‘knees’ and finding it more difficult to get out his pool using the ‘ladder’
Has anyone seen ‘retrofit’ pool ‘STAIRS’ similar to the picture or would he need to speak to the ‘Metal Man’ in Peyia with a view to having them made?

Any ideas or suggestions welcomed

Well, wouldn't you know MAD, we have similiar steps (but in plastic) arriving in stock any day now. I suspect will be a lot cheaper than custom steps made from stainless steel.

For a long time we have had people ask whether we do steps to enable dogs to get out of a pool which does not have walk-in steps. As we all know, dogs can swim, but if they cannot exit a pool, they will tire and eventually drown. Even big dogs. We have known of numerous examples in Cyprus over the years.

A spate of requests a few months ago stirred me into action and I managaged to source a mfr. We ordered 35 but 3 are sold already to concerned pet owners, sight unseen and, at the moment, price not known. We await the total shipping and import charges before setting a price.

The steps can be used for humans too.

One quick question, being 'plastic' would the the end in the pool have to be 'weighted'?

You're right, ballast does indeed need to be added to provide additional stability and this is done by adding sand (which we will supply) to an opening near the top. As you will see from the photos I have sent, the steps are adjustable for different pool depths and have collars at the top which enable the steps to be attached to the surrounding deck.

We brought the steps in from a pet safety perspective, but there is no reason why the steps cannot also be used for humans. Many elderly folk find s/s ladders difficult to use.

Most pool companies will be able to direct you to people who can produce s/s steps - or you can go direct - but I know from experience that custom-made s/s steps will, by their very nature, be pricey: I would anticipate €1,000 - €1,500 + VAT.

Sorry to hijack this thread but I’m going to have to have my 8x4 pool relined in the near future, does anyone have an indication of how much Roman Steps will add to the bill? TIA

Folks often get mixed up between Roman Steps and Walk-In Steps. Roman Steps are normally considered to be large half-moon shaped steps which add to the length of the pool. These are not easy to add to an existing pool because it means breaking into - and therefore compromising - the concrete wall at one end of the pool. This is a major, and very expensive alteration.

It is possible to add smaller half-moon steps (same shape as Roman) on the inside wall of the shallow end of the pool. It's not something we favour because it tends to gobble up more of the available swimming space at the end of the pool. You will also find a greater need to install a grab rail.

Adding internal steps is best done when the pool is re-lined; they are normally always located in one corner of the pool at the shallow end. These can be in the form of simple small, triangular steps (these preserve most swimming space within the pool) or more elaborate designs. I'll ask MAD to kindly attach representative examples of both.

The cost of adding walk-in steps arises in a number of ways:

1) The construction and finishing of the steps using cinder blocks or pour-in concrete. This can take a couple of guys 1-2 days. Depends greatly whether the pool is 1.1m or 1.4m deep at the shallow end.
2) Applying weldstrip to the steps, for the pvc liner to be welded onto.
3) The additional cost of the pvc liner to cover the steps.
4) The cost of the technician's time to apply liner to the steps (2-4 hours depending on size and complexity of the steps).
5) The additional cost of the anti-slip liner applied to the step treads.
