Gliding is not something you normally associate with Cyprus, what with the unforgiving rocky terrain in the event of an off-airstrip landing. Neverthess it is possible and I believe some gliding takes place at the RAF bases.

I am fortunate that one of my recent customers has a long background in aviation and has ratings for most things which move through the air, including helis, private jets and gliders. Many decades ago he test flew U2 bombers (remember those?). Anyway, his swimming pool project was a major undertaking which went on for many months, so I took the opportunity to ask whether he, or a member of his club, would take up my grandkids, as their school reports this year were exceptionally good... and this would be a small and unusual reward. He agreed. I went up too to capture some video.

What follows is a short video of the time we spent at the club. A little bit of light weekend relief. Hope you enjoy.

You'll need full screen and sound up.

I remember there used to be a gliding club across at The army base by Larnaca, and also Episkopi (Limassol) had one also.

Ok that was pre 74 but maybe the forces still have it is an awesome experience.
