Paphos People

They sell 200g packs of lime mortar in paps in the cakemaking /cooking confectionery section. The greek name is " asbestis " and on the label it says "den einai trofimo", not edible , my wife thought in the old days lime was used to preserve eggs in jars but i figure this could be for sealing the front of a kleftico oven , anyone actually know ?
Ps i had entered the greek words correctly with the greek character set but this site rejected it !
