I have never seen eye to eye with the function and required programming of Danfoss central heating time switches!
They seem to take some thing simple and give so many options but often no simple on off switch ended up soting out 3 today and as the models get newer they become more difficult to fathom

We've got a water softener and I'm sure it requires at least three degrees of a scientific nature in order to get the damn thing programmed. I despair when trying to periodically set it up. All kinds of weird symbols that have no common or logiocal meaning and the instructs are pure gobbledygook.

All manufacturers need to do after the boffins have completed their scientific wizardry, is to pay and invite a number of very ordinary citizens, sit them down with the product and instructions and leave them to see how they get on with it. Many companies would be shocked at how challenging some everyday objects are to programme.

Worse still, the print in instruction booklets is usually so small, you have to scan it and blow it up on a computer in order to read it.

Meanwhile we've had other water softeners that couldn't be easier to operate and programme.

I used to install water softners , must agree the programmers were horrible . I find it frustrating everything must be complicated , everything must have hordes of functions , when many just want an on off switch . My favourite function on my central heating programmer is the +1, +2 ,+3 hour button.
Just curious new cars have all manner of stuff , like e-brakes , auto stall and start etc , if you buy one of these can you get type training like they do for pilots moving from one plane to another ?
