To be fair Tanny, I think you're over-egging it a bit. They did not admit to "a horrendous number of side effects". Without having their words to hand, they said something along the lines of "a small number of very isolated cases".
But at the time we all did what we thought was right. Wife and I took all the vaccinations and we did not suffer any consequences, same with all family members who took them. Remember also that we were more or less blackmailed into taking the vaccines... life was made very difficult for us if we didn't.
But having said all the above, would I take vaccines in a similiar scenario. Probably not.
That's not to detract from vaccines; plenty of evidence to show that mumps, measles and rubella are making a come-back thanks to all the scare stories put out by a certain doctor some years ago, who has since proved to be a mine of disinformation and a liar.
Most of us on this forum had potentially life-saving vaccines when we were babies and toddlers, and that is why polio was completely eradicated. Now making a comeback because so many parents won't give polio vaccine to their children. Five babies/toddlers have died of whooping cough in the UK in the last 3 months, again because of low take-up of the appropriate vaccine.
