That was one serious firs that rampaged through the entire region from Giolou to almost Nata (quite a distance) assisted by some strong and constant winds.

Several villages were evacuated as precaution and in general the services did a fabulous job containing it and putting it down. However like any car crash there is always the rubber neckers blocking roads etc through ignorance and they were out in force.

Fortunately our butt n ben at Choulou was missed by a mere 25m thanks to tenacious work by the firestaff and the other half.

Bravo all now for the rebuild of the countryside.

Chatting today to the guy who supplies our logs. In his day job he works for the Forestry Commission. Got talking about the fires this year and how they had coped with them. He mentioned that at times 6 aircraft were available: 2 owned by the Cyprus government, 2 loaned by Spain and 2 loaned (I believe) by Greece.

But the really good news is that in a couple of years time the Cyprus government will have 10 of its own aircraft.
