Ok , ok, form an orderly queue !
I was approaching a traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing, coming towards me was a driving school car , the lights turned red , we both stopped , but then L plate car put on their hazards !
Why ?
New rules ?
Makes no sence , bus drivers seem to do it at bus stops too . Surely everyone knows a bus stopping at a bus stop means people will get on and off.
As my wife says , do they need to make it out of wood and paint it red , surely if people put their phones away in the boot and stopped playing with all the dashboard toys maybe there would be time to concentrate on the road !
Sorry i got into rant mode .

The local drivers here seem to enjoy using the hazard lights for the slightest of reasons and believe they are contributing to society.

Even when stuck behind them in a stopped position in traffic or works it is not unknown for the driver in front to put the hazards on.

Mysterious use!!

Hazard lights should be used for hazards only . Red traffic lights and bus stops dont constitute a hazard , they are what they are ! If you dont know this then why are you sitting in the drivers seat.
Why do so few people use the hands free ? Thought it was standard fitting now and has been for some years . My car is 32 years old so i dont know.

I wouldn't be surprised if the vehicle behind would then try to overtake with the driver assuming the car with the flashing hazard lights had broken down.
Especially if, in the meantime, the lights had changed to green and the car didn't start to move away rapidly as well bearing in mind that in this case it was a learner driver as many don't want to be behind them.

Many times I have seen cars drive through pedestrian lights that are still on red after the pedestrians waiting there have crossed - they don't think there may be someone about to dash across the road.

As an aside, seeing as we are discussing pedestrian crossings, I do wish the lights took longer to change from green to red when a pedestrian pushes the button. Keep expecting the car behind to go shunt me through and that would be rather messy if people were passing in front of me!

I agree lights could do with changing slower, in the north they have countdown timers on the lights, apsolutely brilliant ! Why cant they be common throughout Europe?
One of my pet hates is speed bumps ! My car is heavily loaded most of the time so i do have to slow down a lot , but the impatient people behind me with there big suvs and giant tyres really have no need to slow down and they get very cross with me ! Which is strange because it is exactly that impatient type with no self control who zoom around everywhere that actually caused the speed bumps to be installed in the first place ! So actually i should be angry with them

If they really wanted drivers (or genuinely believed it a safety issue) to stay further back from traffic lights the solution is simple, like it used to be in Germany many moons ago.

At junctions with lights there was only a traffic light facing you literally on the corner you were on, not one across the road or viewable from elsewhere, this meant that to see your own light you had to be 3-5m behind the line to view under the roof of the car.

These regs are simply to create a more compliant, soft and money gushing population.
