Holidays are still silly prices so we're thinking of just booking a flight and hire car in September like we did last time and getting a self catering or just a room ourselves if anyone knows of one r8t cheap or reasonably priced.
This year self catering holidays are more expensive than all inclusive were last year which was the reason that we gave our spring visit a miss.
We've really missed Cyprus as I was too ill to visit last year. We first came to Cyprus in June 1966 with HMForces and got to know the island very well.
We're now off to Chesterfield to find out flight prices or book a reversed boat across the channel.

Please PM me with any brilliant deals.

At this moment even the usual backpackers who would find a niche somewhere are roofless.

Law of Supply and Demand. For myriad reasons (not least being a safe, friendly, holiday destination to come to) Cyprus is a go-to holiday resort. Some parts of Spain are sending a less welcome message to apartment and home renters; thankfully Cyprus is still welcoming to all and sundry.

And many, many, Israelis are looking for safe 'escape' havens in Cyprus, typically holiday homes, but some choose to live here, particularly business owners. Israel to Cyprus is just 45 mins, so makes perfect sense. This has done wonders for local businesses, big and small... and has helped bolster the house-buying market.

Tour companies and airlines are not slow to capitalise on a high-demand commodity. Simple as.

Just returned from Cyprus.
Never seen so many incomplete buildings, at one time when you came back the following year they would have been completed.
Many empty commercial premises (Bars, Stores etc) Graffiti everywhere. Night entertainment declined, not one live band anywhere, Bar Street so dull.

So I'm not a moaner I'm pointing out as we found it.
We always hire a car as we have so many favourite locations some from our time her with HMForces.

Sound as if you just stayed in the immediate Bar Street area as there are plenty of activities, live music etc advertised in Paphos.
If you are on Facebook that is where the groups and solo artists advertise - some places offering live entertainment every night.
However, that depends on your idea of entertainment!

Baseman63, we live in chloraka close to st George's lights , I can assure you until literally a week ago there have been at least 5 venues with live music within earshot . Sadly I think you were in the wrong place. I gave up on bar st some 15 years ago . Whilst I don't look for live entertainment the " Paphos post " has a whats on this week , check it out next time you come , I'm sure you will find something good.

Our expat friend who still lives in Paphos confirmed that there aren't any live bands on anywhere in Paphos this week, he is a drummer who I played in a band with when we came to Paphos a few years back.
The number of empty, incomplete buildings (Apartments, hotels, houses and shops) reminds me of the blitzed shells of buildings in Sheffield when I was a child. Everywhere you look incomplete or empty properties.
Some of our friends have passed away some have returned to the UK, only one remains in Paphos.
And no I'm not being a moaner I'm saying it as we found it.

I agree with you regarding the general state of some areas in and around Paphos and it is spreading!

Luckily we are not on Facebook or the keyboard warriors there would be having a field time as we have dared to be honest about what we see and think!

Bassman Strange ? The Laura has live music and I used to just walk in and buy a drink , paying cash at the bar .I'm sure you can do that at many hotels. At st George's lights is Chris King'S venue , seems he has live acts most nights , there is sometimes a lot of noise from the new horizon last Thursday chalkies in coral bay had 2 singers , and the bar 100m along had singers too. Clearly what I see is not what you are looking for ?
I live here and feel there is lots going on where you seem to feel it's dead ! Different perspectives I guess. I am happy with a quiet restaurant and soft background music.

It depends how you define live music. Live music is musicians playing not singers singing to backing tracks.

I guess I problem is a singer with backing tracks can do an evenings entertainment considerably cheaper than a 2 or 3 piece band . When we ran a restaurant some Sundays we had to allow a cost of 2 to 3 euro PER HEAD on sunday lunch and that was for a singer only , we could not afford to book bands. But everyone expects cheap food and cheap beer . Often we would do better to have a few customers and no singer rather than busy and a singer ! In the end we gave up and closed.
Not paid much attention but I'm sure there have been some high profile acts in larnaca recently, sorry don't know any details
