Just read an article in the Cyprus post, seems parliament has passed a bill to require during school hours for pupils to have their phones switched off , I am all for this ! Opponents argue there is no reason pupils should not have their phone switched on providing they use it responsibly, they are kids that is an unreasonable expectation ,It's unreasonable even with adukts at work.
If pupils do have their phone on them how will you police them being turned off ? I see the only way to do it is to not allow phones to be carried on their person and to be stored in a locked compartment. Some people argue what if there is an emergency ? The school has many phones this is not a problem, I see this as a silly argument and has no substance.

I also think in many places of employment then your phone should be stored in your locker and only be available during breaks and lunchtime .
Opponents will also argue how safe is their incredibly expensive phone when locked up,at school,or work , my answer is simple ! Don't take valuable to work or school .

I agree entirely, some period of a day when people are not driven by phones, facebook etc must be good.

I have just read that as of tuesday the 29th october the cyprus education ministry has started enforcing the phone ban , i am guessing the transitional period will be a time of some turmoil . I beleive in the end it will be better

The dependence on the phone has become unbearable in so many different ways, however I actually believe that this will have a reverse psychological effect of making the importance of the machine even greater to the upcoming.

Spoke to a neighbour who has a 10 year old son at school and we were discussing it was a good move to ban mobile phones in schools.
However, the son said it was more important to keep in contact with his friends than learning anything.

I think the young lads comment says everything . Sadly I expect he might want to grow up to be an influencer !

Wouldn't worry about that, Mouse. In the event he becomes an influencer, his annual earnings will be a hundred times yours. Banning kids from using their phones is akin to Canute bidding the tide to not come in. And what example do we as adults set, self-included?

Indeed yak something as pointless and useless as an influencer can earn a small fortune , in truth I don't really understand what an influencer is or does apart from having many thousands of brainless sheep following them , I just don't move in social media circles where influencers lurk .
Paphos people and Facebook is my total social media experience which is on a WiFi tablet . My new Nokia phone purports to be 4g and have internet although it is like trying to do word processing with a Sinclair zx81 ! , so I have no mobile internet capability and as such don't suffer the addiction that so many do .it really is sad when people walk around with cigarette butts ( ear buds ) in their ears somthey won't miss the next phone call ! I am glad I am not plugged in 24/7 and hope I never will be
