 Post subject: CHAT ROOM
PostPosted: Mon Dec 31, 2007 8:48 pm
I know that chat rooms have been tried on other forums and don't always seem to take off. But I do think it would be a good idea to try this out.

I think that a two hour slot on a Sunday evening would be good for starters, as if the chat room is open all the time people dip in, find it empty, and then eventually give up trying. At least if it is limited - initially at least - those who like to chat will know precisely when others will be there.

Anyone else got any thoughts on this?

Oh, and can someone clever from Admin tell me whether this is a possibility or whether I am speaking out of turn?

Other members seem to be nursing hang-overs right now Tilly Twosox.

Chatrooms are really useful if run properly. They are easier than texting and pm - ing as you are already in there. Just like MSN.

A chat room is something that we are going to do.
we already have the software for it, but have not
yet installed it.
we have a back log of business adverts that we need to get through first.
And to top it off poor martin (tech Dept) has been Ill for a few days.

last but not least,, Although my wife is russian , I am not a communist dictator , we believe in freedom of speach..
(but no bad launguage please  )

Taking over the world? I thought that was the Scots claim to fame. I only knew one Scottish person when I lived in the UK. Here, every other friend I make is of the haggis fraternity.

Midlanders are taking over Wales. Specifically Barmouth. Given a choice between sunny island in the Med and a cold, damp town on the left hand side of the UK I know where I would choose.

Waiting for the sh*t to hit the fan.   I like to live life on the edge.

Yeah we can do it - as Neil says, we have the software, just a case of spending a bit of time to install and configure it all properly.

You'll have to manage Sunday evenings without me though - no internet access at home for me (conscious decision on my part to avoid taking work home all the time, plus there's no broadband in our street!)

Any further forward with this guys?

Don't wish to run before we can walk, but does it look feasible?

I'm just awaiting delivery of my special broom so the sweeping of the floor doesn't get neglected while I focus on these additional tasks..... :P

As you had all this time to contemplate how the universe was formed etc, etc, I thought you could be getting on with some real work.

Nah, I don't do multi-tasking, leave that to you ladies!

Besides, I worry that if we all stopped contemplating the universe at the same time, it might cease to exist!! Not worth the risk i reckon.

:D

Chat rooms are good for a giggle but a forum means stuff gets archived for use via search at a later date.

Don't waste your time on chat IMO - i've never seen a forum launch one that has been well used after the first month or two ! just my two pence worth.
