Hi Alison,

As you can see from the picture, its in the middle of nowhere & not a lot around it but mountains, its quite a trek to the nearest road & isn't anywhere near the beach either :!:

May I ask why you're interested in this area at all :? are you thinking of staying there or around that area :?:

Oh Pete, you're being a little harsh there :o We've installed a couple of safety fences there for British couples and can tell you that it's a nice, traditional Cypriot village. One very good reason to buy there however - our last customer pointed out - is that it's just a few hundred metres off the main highway (not evident from the above map)...and is almost equidistant from Limassol, Larnaca and Nicosia, which makes it great for employment opportunities. They were both primary teachers working in Nicosia, but reasoned that if they left their current jobs, they could find alternative employment in any of the three towns. Lloyd

I know the map doesn't show any of this, so I apologise if my above post was far from correct :oops:

The only thing I know about that area is, its very close to the fault line that runs up the island, as you can see from the map :!: Its not a mjor fault line but it is the cause of most of the earth quakes we have here in Cyprus, we were told this when I was stationed here, after the 6.5 that hit us in Aug 99 :!: followed shortly there after but the massive quake that flattered Istanbal :o

One of the reasons I live over this side of the island :lol:

I suppose you could say thats its located in the idyllic Cypriot sitituation. Nice village, not overdeveloped, close to sea capital and cities.

Ideal if you are mobile and have a car to travel throughout the Island.

I am unsure about business opportunities and speaking with locals and Brits living there would be advisable.

If you are considering running a B&B or hotel etc I would take a serious study of passing trade etc and consider approaching the authorities to see if any additional funding is available to go down the agro tourism route. You would probably have to spend a bit more marketing the area and specialise in this, however I am sur I have read on the govt website that agro tourism will recieve assistance. Try the http://www.visitcyprus.com as an initial start, they may have visitor numbers, future plans and will be able to point you into the right direction re; agro tourism.

That's interesting Pete. So are the fault lines those two grey spidery lines on the upper and lower left of the map? Or are they simply roads :roll: Lloyd

Arodes was damaged pretty badly during an earthquake, or so I believe. That's not too far from Tsada, Pete. Ineia is even closer.

I don't think anywhere is an earthquake free zone in Cyprus. Don't we get around 3 minor tremors a day? If earthquakes are a major concern for anyone, maybe they shouldn't think of settling in Cyprus.

Lloyd,

Those grey lines are the main roads in the area, the fault line runs up from the coast from Zyyi, past Choirokoitia & on past Vavla & onto Ora.. its quite visable when you see the map from a descent height, as that picture is :!:

Sorry I think my last post seems to have vanished (talking about earthquakes) hope that's not an omen. My husband spotted a property in Sarinou for sale that used to be a B&B in the 90's. We intended to view it in Nov but the owners had accepted a deposit so we had missed the bus (so to speak) we have visited the island 16 times, so we have a fare bit of knowledge but much less inland. As we are wanting to relocate we are are looking for a specific type of propert that could also offer us an income. We have friends who have bought/sold, bought/can't sell and a couple who rent. As we are not of retirement age we would need to secure employment as we are not mortgage free in the UK.
My husband has his own laminate/hardwood flooring business for the last 13yrs and I'm employed with the NHS we have decent salaries. We wouldn't consider renting our home as we would still need to cover the costs of insurances on the mortgage etc.
We are not to worried about the earthquakes... well we wern't when we didn't know how close they had come to the village so more researcgh needed there ... thank you to the forum better to know as many facts as possible...i doubt it would put us off ... unless we encounter serious problems..we are keen to live in a rural area and have 2 dogs. Our search has been focused on Paphos until we started to look and experience village life. The agro-tourism sites appear to be a popular option for nature lovers or folks less interested with beach holidays. We have lot's of information and have researched this and other villages from a tourist point of view but as you say we would appreciate insiders knowledge or points of view????
