My sister is considering bringing her cats to Cyprus (against my advice as I think theres enough and she could easily adopt).

What is the best method for bringing the animals into the Island? how do they generally adapt to the heat etc? and what hoops had to be jumped through?

We bought our cat out with us. If you love your animals you don't particularly want to leave them behind and replace them with another. We also brought two dogs too.

We used an animal shipper as we had three animals to bring out. We also needed to board them for around five weeks prior to shipping. It was expensive, but for us it was worth it as they were excellent and looked after our cat every step of the way.

If your sister wants to bring her cat on the same flight as her she should contact the airline and ask for their advice. The cat will need to be fully pet passported, including a flea, tick and worm treatment within 24 - 48 hours prior to flying. I am not sure about any other paperwork as it was all taken care of by the shipping agents. But we paid a nominal fee to the customs and excise guy at Pafos airport when we collected them.

Couple of our friends have brought their cats over - you can get them on a flight pretty cheap (especially if you don't order meals! ) and then just arrange to meet the government vet at the airport and pay a small fee.

Need their pet passports before setting off too!

This was a couple of years ago though, so may have changed since.

Adapting doesn't seem to have been a problem - they love sunbathing and being outside all year round, and can find shade easily enough when they need it.

Oh yeah. Forgot that bit. Kiwi didn't have a problem. Fell in the pool once, but soon got out and didn't do it again, although he does drink the pool water. He loves life here. Cats will always find somewhere cool to snooze.
