Paphos People

I often see many negative posts about Paphos/Cyprus, however lets list the good things about the area we love and often chose to stay in.

I'll start.

The wondeful weather, climate and people.

What can you say to sell Paphos ???

The fact that you can open your Patio doors on a Saturday morning in January, Sit outside and have a cup of Tea to start the day.

The little tavernas that you can find in the side streets of Pano Pafos.

And are we talking about Kato and Pano Pafos, or are we talking about the Pafos region? Often people only think of Kato Pafos when they speak about the place. If you are talking about the region I can wax lyrical about Narnia until the cows come home.

Oh look. They are home. And the goats. And the sheep. And the donkeys.

Why bother? Who are you trying to sell it to? Those of us who know and love the place know why we love it. Those who do the whingeing are only trying to justify their wrong decision to come here.

The abundance of estate agents!

I wonder if the same will happen to them here, as it has to those in Spain!!!

The fact that its not the UK sells itself but the main things are, there's hardly any crime, you're able to leave your car unlocked & the windows down in the midst of summer. you can walk around without the fear of being mugged or murdered etc etc

I could go on & on but my first comment says it all

I enjoy reading these type of threads as they generate a lot of interest for us.We are ready for the move but too early yet.Keep the posts coming.

I would definately echo what everyone else has said - the slower pace of life, wonderful climate, friendly people, low crime, cheaper cost of living etc etc.

I feel like I'm coming home every time I land at Paphos Airport and get seriously depressed 2 weeks later when I leave.

Verity - haven't yet explored your neck of the woods but will definately head up that way when we visit in May - it sounds wonderful

I would also add plentiful live Premiership football accompanied by bountiful supplies of cheap beer!

And I don't think I'll ever get bored of eating Meze!

Totally agree with all listed above, we deal with british and cypriots in our line of work and i get a real buzz with how friendly everyone is, everyone is just so happy, it makes me love my job even more.
Another good thing about life here is the wonderful service our children recieve in the restuarants here, its not a case of children should be seen and not heard although they are very well behaved when out and about, its at home they let off steam who does'nt. it just makes it that little more special knowing the kids can be who they are and feel more involved.
I love the life we have here, it was a very daring move but well worth it.

I don't consider myself 'lucky' to live here. It was a rational choice that anyone could have made, that suited my life choices. If you have to be sold the idea of coming here to live, then you really shouldn't be coming.

Moving to live in an alien culture thousands of miles from your friends and family is not something to be undertaken lightly. The fact that so many do, on a whim, is the main reason why so many find it to be an expensive mistake and return to the UK poorer and often bitter, blaming the country for their own foolish choices.

Cyprus can be a fine place to live, but you will know if it is right for you. You should not need someone else to sell you the idea.

OK, so let me reword the topic, Ignor the Sell me Paphos and let me replace it with a more sterile title.

Try, Tell me what you like, admire and covet about Paphos and the main reasons why you decided to make it your home?

What brought me to Cyprus was the British Government, as I was originally posted here in Mar 99 & served at Akrotiri for 2 years I wouldn't have left but I met someone & decided to leave the forces & try to settle back into civilian life

I wrestled with a few jobs but was never really settled in any of them, even though I enjoyed where I lived, I think I also started to suffer from S.A.D. due to being use to Cyprus weather & then moving to Edinburgh which was constantly raining & miserable...

We then decided to move to France but after many recce visits, we couldn't make a decision as to where would be best to live, so after a holiday here in April 06, we went back to Edinburgh, sat down & worked out which country would we better off in, UK, France or Cyprus

We wrote down all the things we thought we had to consider, ie language, tax, roads, money, housing etc etc & gave them points out of 10... we found that the UK & France didn't have much difference but both came way behind Cyprus, so with that & my love for this country, we put the house up for sale but wasn't having much luck selling, so we booked yet another holiday on the 15th Sept 06 but 4 weeks before we were due to come over for 12 days, we got the full asking price on our house & 2 others things happened too, my partners contract finished on the 15th Sept & the new owner wanted to move in on that date, so we had just 3 1/2 weeks to pack up, arrange shipment & get sorted, and that date became the day we moved permantly

Even though we moved here, my partner still wasn't full committed to Cyprus, as her heart, even now is still in France but we said we'd give it 6 months & that was 16 months ago.. now we're committed (sanely) to our lives here, have 2 seperate businesses & now a new, thriving community website with lots of new friends

So what made us choose Cyprus, careful consideration & lots of scrutiny
