Post subject: | Civil Identity Cards |
Thought after nearly four years here I would get the identity card and since I misplaced the first set of forms went to get some more. Way they have actual instructions in English and this is what it says:- CIVIL IDENTITY CARDS Issue/Replacement of Civil Identity Card It is compulsory that any eligible person who has attained the age of twelve to acquire and be in possession of a Civil Identity Card. Civil Identity Cards are issued to the following persons: * To citizens of the Republic * To persons of Cypriot origin * to aliens lawful inhabitants of Cyprus regardless of whether they have a permit for permanent or temporary residence. Citizens who may apply for replacement of the existing Civil Identity Card either because of loss or wear and tear or for any other reason will from now on be provided with the new type of identity card. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS * A completed relevant application form * A 4x3cm photograph (passport size) * Copy of Birth Certificate * Copy of Marriage Certificate in the case of a married woman who wants to change her surname or a Divorce Certificate in case of a divorced woman * Copy of Passport * 3 copies of Alien Card (1 copy of each page) * In cases of alients lawful residents of Cyprus, the Alien Registration Certificate, the Residence Permit, the Birth Certificate translated into Greek and the Passport should be produced. * Issue fee CYP5 Thought this might come in handy for someone, but if I am reading it correctly we are meant to get the Birth Certificate translated because the ARC and RP are already in Greek - are they being awkward or what? |

Neil, I have my yellow slip too, but according to that I now have to translate my Birth Certificate - it is hard enough to read it as it looks like it is over 200 years old. |

50 euros for translating - no way, I won't be getting a identity card then - why can't we translate it ourselves babelfish altavista comes to mind as none of the names can be translated they are British but the other bits can - I will give that a try. My Birth Certificate unfortunately got wet a long time ago, plus I had mice in the place I lived so it has been slightly chewed at the corners and a bit blurred. |

Wouldnt it be good advice then for people expecting to go to Cyprus to purchase the New Clearer Type written Extract Certificates for this purpose. Of even those in Paphos to purchase the same through an address in the UK. |

UPDATE: Ok .. I heard a rumor that they only ask for translated birth certificates if its none english , so I thought I might chance my luck. I went down today, forms filled in , that was easy, copy of everything they ask for on list, all the wifes details etc,etc .. Remember my wife is Russian , so we had her birth certificate translated it only cost her 15cyp to get it translated. handed in the forms, was told to take a seat while she entered all our details onto the computer (yes they have modern things) sat for about 10 mins , then she took 17 euros from me, told me to go back in a week and our I.D cards will be ready It never even hurt |

I certainly didn't have to get a translation of my birth certificate for an ID card - nor for that matter did I have to produce it. Sounds like some goalposts have been moved again |

So after all that, the only benefit you get is, you have to vote in elections or face jail or a fine for not voting Sounds a bit long winded to me |

Sounds a bit long winded to me its nice if the Muhkter (spelling) of the village knows you have the right to vote , 2 votes in a 100 population village can go a long way when you want something done |
