Post subject: | TAVERNA CLUB - UPDATE |
I am working on the schedule for the Taverna Club and think I have a starting point. We are looking at having a PaphosPeople Taverna Night once a month on the last Friday of the month, so the dates are as follows - March - 28th April - 25th May -30th June - 27th July -25th August - 29th September - 26th October - 31st November - 28th The December one will be our Christmas get together, so can't be the last Friday. I need to know whether you have any tavernas that you favour as I can't think the all up by myself. For starters Neil has suggested Konia Taverna, George's at Mandria, Stroumpi Taverna and Fetta Corner in Pano Pafos. I am thinking of throwing a couple of Sunday Lunch dates in too - a trip to The Last Castle and another to Lysos, if anyone would be interested. So over to you guys. I need your ideas. Verity. |

Yippee!!! At last. One on a date when I will actually be there (28th March). Sunday lunches would be great too and can't think of anything better than Lysos (Paradisos Hills) or the Last Castle. No doubt Petradaki and/or Imogens will be on the list. |

I love Imogens, but I have spoken with some who live around Kathikas who are less complimentary. They prefer Petradaki - maybe because it caters more towards the Brit preferences in surroundings. And if you are up for Sunday lunch I have to say theirs isn't half bad. I have never had a bad meal at Imogens, and as I don't like to be fussed and fawned over by waiting staff the laid back approach of Apostollos is right up my street. We could put it on the list and let people decide for themselves. I know I will be there as soon as those doors are opened after the winter break. I think of it as my local. Verity. |

King Zorbas TOTK is very good value and fairly central, sure we could arrange a deal with him, for finger buffet etc |

So far I have - Konia Taverna George's Taverna, Mandria Strombi Tavern Fetta Corner - does this tavern have a proper name and directions please? Costas Taverna, Pegia Taverna at Agia Marinouda - Peppermint, have you more info ie a proper name and phone number please? That takes me up to September so far, including the one for March, which I will announce shortly. Paramed - is King Zorbas a taverna that does a meal at night? You have confused me with the finger buffet thing. If there is somewhere you think should be included please post under this topic. Thanks. Verity. |

Russ, Viklari (The Last Castle) will be one of our summer Sunday lunch venues. They close at 5.30 p.m. Those who have 4X4's may be called on to help those who don't to get there. But we will cross that Akamas when we come to it. Verity. |

I have to put my vote in for Petradaki's, too. Not only do they do great grub, bu you can get your car fixed while you eat! The owner and chef used to be a motor mechanic; he knows his stuff on both scores. While I was chowing-down there one Sunday, he informed me my Rav was hissing and leaking water. Turned out one of the engine block plugs had perforated. OK, so he wasn't actually able to fix it, but we had a good old natter about it, the pair of us heads down in the engine bay, feet in the air |

Hey Mike, My Rav4 use to do that, I ended up having to get the Head Gasket replaced & as it had already been done once by some Cypriot mechanic who glued the gasket on instead of using gasket paste, I had to have the head skimmed too.... so if you've not had it fixed, I'd get it done soonest mate |

Cheers Pete. I've had all the bungs replaced, and timing belt and a few other things, but not the head gasket (yet). So thanks for giving me something new to worry about when scaling the dodgy tracks high in the Troodos! |

mate, its only if you start to lose lots of water & have to top it up everyday with a litre of water that you'll probably need a new head gasket even then it might be your water pump or a hose Better to be aware than to plead ignorance after the fact |

Very reasonable and the most fantastic views over the damn. Would be a good afternoon one as very laid back and relaxing. I can get you the number if you want Rebel Sam X |

...that's Sa-Buneri; yes - lovely views over the Evretou Reservoir; and plenty of space inside and out; easy to find, easy parking (in contrast to many smaller in-village eateries); only been there for coffee |

Sorry Pete. It wasn't intentional that I missed out Aristos and Stroumpi Taverna. I am a bit pre-occupied at the moment, so you will have to forgive me. I won't miss them off the list. We may have years ahead of us if people take to the Taverna Club idea. All ideas welcome. Verity. |

Theres Chris's in Mesoyi... Real basic in terms of decor but food absoutely excellent. Also in Kathikas is Yiannis, which is quite large for groups (opposite side to Imogens) its where we had our reception and if its pre booked it seems he'll pull all the stops out.... Just a couple to throw into the melting pot as it were.... Cheers Ian |

I will look for venues with large seating areas. I think these will be dipped into, and it gives those of you in the UK a chance to meet some faces to go with the names on the forum. Anyway, I am going before Pete tells me off. It's great to be off that damn ward though, even if the staff are lovely. Verity. |

May I suggest Araouzos Tavern in Kathikas. It is now under new management and has a far more extensive menu than it used to have. It is also a fairly large venue. Regards Brian & Steph |

Hi Verity, Just putting Taverna dates on calendar and 25th April is Greek Orthodox Good Friday - does that make any difference to booking a venue? Ruth |

Wouldn't think so - we went on an outing last Good Friday from another forum. Jean |

I just went for the last Friday of each month - no copying of any other forum intended. I think Jean is right and we should let it stand. There might be some UK members over for Easter in Cyprus. It might work in their favour. I was baptised on a Good Friday - total immersion in the sea at Trebarwith Strand. Hope it is a little warmer this Good Friday than it was then. Verity. |

Okay. As promised. The first Taverna Club venue is a central one on The Tomb of The Kings Road between Kings Gardens and Ikaria Village. THE MELANIA TAVERNA It will be on Friday 28th March at 7.30 p.m. I will need to know who wants to come so that I can give numbers to Matheos so I will put up a seperate "sticky" post at the beginning of March for people to put their names down. I won't ask for deposits, but if there are any last minute changes I would appreciate it if you could let me know so that I can pass this on to the taverna. I will put up the list for the year shortly - just need to be sure I have directions to some of them. Verity. |
