Post subject:  Blood Donors and helpers needed

Since moving to Cyprus in November we have become involved in helping out at the blood donor sessions. There is always a need for blood and we have been informed that there is a particular shortage of any type negative. Most of the Cypriot people are type positive with only a 3% need for negative but with the influx of people from places such as the UK this has risen to around 8%.
Therefore if you are interested in donating, helping out or both please email us for further details.

Many thanks.

I don't live over there (yet), but are there restrictions for donors like over here? I.e. I can no longer give blood here in the UK due to me having had transfusions.

Is there an age limit on donating blood in Cyprus?

How often are the sessions?

If I am not too old and in Cyprus when you hold a session would be prepared to donate as I am "O negative"

Universal donor like me, but info is needed as to where and when, trouble is the army tried to give me an ID card with O Pos which I refused to accept this was in 67/8 when they were issuing the new plastic ID cards, I still had my old original tattered ID card when I left in 69.

We do not know the exact building, only that it is around the square.
There will be a hospital van with part of the registration being BAD as near to the venue as possible. We always look for this.

I will be 65 in April, is it 65 inclusive? I find this strange as it is now 70 in the UK

ok so this is our chance to actually do something worthwhile here...

There's a big sign as you drive from Trimithousa to Tala, promoting a Blood donor session next Friday afternoon in Tala square (ish!)

only exceptions are those previously banned from giving blood and those in the UK... and old people!

everyone else should do their best to get down there!

no wussy excuses!

... i wonder if you get boubon biscuits and coffee afterwards here?

As far as we know the age limit in Cyprus is 64 inclusive, too old at 65.
Usually there is plenty to eat and drink for the donors, not just tea and biscuits. There has even been wine and zivania at one session.

... as the best time to drink spirits is when you're 10% down on your blood volume?
