Well I finally decided yesterday that I need to go on a diet. Our trip to Cyprus in May is fast approaching and I don't think any of my summer clothes will fit me. Trouble is I start out with lots of good intentions but I'm now sitting here eating chocolate.

I know it gets more difficult as you get older (the big 50 is not too far away) but the truth is I love food & drink and hate excercise - there I've admitted it.

Anyone got any tips on how to stay focussed and get motivated cos at this rate hubby will be charged excess baggage on the plane for oversized me

Hi Julie

Firstly, get rid of all the bad stuff out of your cupboards! If there's no goodies in the house, you cant eat them.

Never go shopping on an empty stomach.

Make sugar free jellies for when you get the urge for something sweet.

If you've not already done it, swap sugar for artificial sweeteners and full fat for semi skimmed(cant praise skimmed milk, tried lots of times to swap from semi to skimmed and I just cant do it!)

Little amendments are far less traumatic than a full on lifestyle change.

Wish I could practise what I preach...
Good luck
:piggy x

Buy yourself something nice for trip one size smaller and aim for it.
Its hard at this time of year when its cold and you just want to sit in with tea& choc.I try to do most off the thigs pigglet said and eat wholemeal bread.Dont worry if you are like me i come back from holis fitter as its nice to walk and swim in the sun.Try a big pot of soup stock cube, veg, add tin tomatoes keep in fridge and heat up and eat when ever you think you need choc or crisps

Thanks Ladies

I am going to knuckle down and give it my best shot - it's up to me - nobody can do it for me. Going to dig out all my old weightwatchers books and do a shopping list for healthy food. Would love to be able to go running but can't as I have dodgy knees. Planning a nice long brisk walk on Sunday though :)

When my mam was on weight watchers she used to drink Gin and slim line tonic instead of vodka and coke. i don''t know if it assisted her diet in any way but that was the recommended drink if she wanted to have a few glasses. Everything in moderation I say!

When I was on my health kick for my wedding, I roped one of my friends into training with me (added incentive was she was coming over to Cyprus for my wedding as well). We used to go to aerobics and pilates classes with a swim after class. We went about 3 - 4 times a week. Becasue we were both doing it, we stayed focused as we didn't want to leave the other to go to a class on their own. I think we did well - healthy and fighting fit!

Best thing I can advise though is drink loads of water!

Good luck and judging by your avater photo you don't look like you need to lose any weight so be careful if you are going to diet - it's easy to go too far sometimes so just aim to be healthy. :D

Looks like you've already started one ladies :D

Once we get a few more members posting on a regular basis, we can look at making a 'Diet' forum, along with a few others that members have asked for but in the meantime, this thread will have to do I'm afraid :(

Thanks for your kind words Yvonne but pics can be deceiving  Checked out my details on weightwatchers and could really do with shedding a stone. Still I've made a start and if I can lose a couple of pounds a week I could do it by the time I come on holiday in May

Coming back from the U.K. after spending Christmas there, I had a virus that was hanging about for a few weeks. Hoping to get over it quickly, decided to start getting fit again and started to go for a walk.

Well I only went once, the second time (a couple of weeks ago), tripped up the stairs and cracked my head on the concrete wall. also hurt my neck, shoulders and knee. So much for getting fit.

Gotta admit I hate it when I'm inactive.

Hi All

Am also on a mission to reduce my weight and wanted to share my attempts with you.

Just joined Pete Cohen's weight loss and fitness plan as sponsored by Daily Telegraph and who as you might know organises GMTV "Inch loss Island" It is all through email and web site access with loads of resources including diaires and tracking systems.

Am only on day 3, but to date the videos and resources aim to change my whole attitude to food. It is not a diet as such although there is a section on heathy menus.

Their are 9 points to assimilate within the first 21 days to attempt to change eating habits. You are only advised to concentrate on 3 at a time until you have reprogrammed your eating habits.

The 5 tasks I am concentrating on presently are:

1. Eating slowly and chewing food well.
2. Concentraing on what hunger means and only eating when hungry
3. Reduce portions and stop eating when full.
4. Drink 2 litres of water per day
5. Reduce sugar and sweet foods.

I have in 3 days lost 2.5 lbs and I am not presently find it too difficult inspite of previously being a glutenous eater and about 3 stone over weight.

Will keep you posted on my journey to attempt to find the me from 20 years ago!!!

Not cheap, but I am anticipating saving money on the reduced amount of food I normally eat.

If you have £49 to spare I can recommend the programme.

Chris

I can relate to the inactive bit Molly but I hope all will be well for you really soon.

Past couple of months I have put on more than a few pounds along side a couple of stone :manic time to work it off now. Gentle sunshine and a few walks in Cyprus will help, Like yummymummy I dont do wet hair. :) :)

Chris

That sounds really good and great results so far :)

Keep us posted on your progress.

I am doing weight watchers as it has worked for me in the past, although I didn't stick at it long enough - am determined to this time. Not attending classes as I object to paying £5 just to get weighed but have all the books from last time. Two work colleagues have decided to do the same to we can all support each other. Have dug my old rowing machine out of the garage and had a good workout this morning and have to admit I feel great :o So just need to stick at it

We are back on the WW kick too - only things that has ever worked but need to stick at it longer. Did it online last time which was pretty good, as you get to track your weight. This does give you some incentive, to achieve the stars. Access to some great recipes too.

Thanks for your encouragement and good luck to all those in progress of doing something about the extra pounds!

My plan is still going well, remembering to eat slowly and chew my food instead of belting it down at great speed takes all my concentration but appears to work as I am begininng to recognise when I am full. No longer going back for seconds or puddings.

Having some difficulty in recognising true hunger but am still motivated.

Am becoming waterlogged with all the water and I will soon be able to float to Cyprusl, but it does seem to be working as my clothes are already feeling less tight.

Will weigh myself again on Wednesday and we will see.

Chris

I'm trying to shift a few pounds before I come over in four weeks (on count down) and want to try and keep up the exercise whilst I'm over but have a feeling the pool maybe too cold!

Can anyone suggest any nice coastal walks to do or walks around Tala?

ps didn't have any pancakes last night either

I had fish and chips last night (a treat, rarely have them), but I went a step further and had to have a chip sandwich!!!

Cant wait to start exercising again and shift some of the bulges.

Ooops..... fell off the wagon yesterday. One too many glasses of wine and chicken marengo. Have to get back on track today. Guess I will have to put on my waterproofs and take the dog out to get rid of the excess calories!!!
