I am sure this question has been asked before but all advice welcome. Bringing my car from the uk for a period of approx 6 months or hiring a car for the same period.

Another option would be to buy an old car (say, 500 euros for something made in the 90s) and sell it after the 6 months.

Not sure what you would get for 500 euros, probably cost a fortune to keep it going !

It cost us £650/€770 to ship our car over. presumably you would do it this way???

So, there and back would costs £1300/€1540 without any motoring expenses and port fees ... or were you planning on driving?

Thanks for the advice guys. JB, it would probably cost me that in fuel to drive down to Greece or Turkey and sail over to the island? I presume I won't have to pay any import tax as I am only bringing it in temporarily?
