I know this has probably been done to death, but in this fast changing world of Cyprus I just want to make sure what the current situation is.

My step-daughter moved here in February and left behind a VW Golf to be sold - it hasn't!! - so now she is thinking of bringing it here. She will be taking over a Restaurant/Bar shortly so will be working.

Can anyone enlighten us as to the situation regarding importing cars from the EU (UK) and if duty is payable still and if so, at what rate? (her Golf is a 2.3 litre go-faster girl racer job)

Chris

Try this site as it is an actual account of someone doing this
http://www.expatforum.com/expats/cyprus ... yprus.html
You will also find that due to the size of engine the cost of road tax is high All you do is multiply the cc x 0.19649 to get the amount in Euros
(ie 2300 x 0.19649=451.93 Euros/year)
Cheers and you can let me know how you get on as I am about to do the same thing

Remember that if she has NO intention of selling the car in Cyprus for at least 10 years that every EU member when relocating to Cyprus is allowed one duty free car from another EU country.

If it was low mileage or had not been owned by you for 6 months you USED to have to pay Cyprus VAT. This is no longer the case. (EU intervention)

I have heard from various sources that the payment of duty MAY change in the near future as it is believed to be a further contravention of EU rules regarding the free movement of goods.

Brian.

Thanks guys...............unfortunately a bit late as my post was in May 2008, and she has long since brought the car over, paid the extortionate registration fee and the road tax, and has been driving it around for quite a while now.................
