Our Cyprus Health Minister has announced
That the UK variant is growing in numbers here in Cyprus
Mostly at the moment in Limassol

The uk variant .. is sadly more contagious

Hands, face, space , ventilate
Still important for us all
Though following people into supermarkets
Few now cleaning their hands

Let’s hope that the roll out of the vaccines continues at speed

What amazes me is the world has stuck a label on us good folk here in the UK, the mutation is called the UK variant, may I ask how it got into Cyprus.

No flights out of the UK to Cyprus
No boats out of the UK to Cyprus
No holidays till Boris tells us, or we are locked up in a hotel or fined £5000
Cyprus is whinging that we are not holidaying in Cyprus.
Cyprus saying that all cafes and hotels are shut along with restaurants so why come
Cyprus is in lockdown and not letting anyone in
Cyprus has strict curfews.

Is it that the good people of Cyprus have been letting others in without screening.

So how did it get there, only asking

You are so right in the naming of the uk Kent variant B117

It was the excellent uk Genome testing surveillance team ..... one of the best genome testing facilities in the world...that excellence in tracking and learning about the covid 19 virus that picked up on this variant first .....This B117 variant could have flown in and originated from anywhere in the world as airports to the uk where wide open ...with no quarantining at all ......but because it was first identified because of such scientific excellence in the uk ....it has been dubbed the UK Kent Variant B117

So maybe they should start to use the identification numbers of the variants instead of where they where identified..... to be more fairer ... the uk Kent variant number is B117 ...without the excellence of the scientific genome testing teams of the uk ..it would never have been picked up on ..the B117 variant was identified in Kent last September

In Cyprus ....It has probably arrived in by planes arriving ...people from the uk where supposed to quarantine and isolate at home ...in the leading months to hotel quarantine...trust me they did not all isolate or quarantine at all...they where out there in the supermarkets ...people of all ages...on the forums talking about going to supermarkets etc ...young people ...students.....even when Hotel quarantining came into force.. ....these students where allowed to go straight home to their families to quarantine...did they stay home? ..did their families who where mixing with them go out to supermarkets and mix with family etc etc ....anyone’s guess....did some one from another country who are not quarantined fly the B117 variant in? ...this variant B117 could have been circulating for some months ....same as it had been in the uk....or maybe the B117 variant just erupted here ...who knows with the variants...as viruses do cause variants!

What is showing now ...is this new B117 variant that became the most dominant variant in the uk and caused that huge spike in January ...then caused huge spikes in Ireland and Portugal ...and now causing spikes in the EU ...Germany, France and especially Poland at the moment

Is now showing itself here in Cyprus...especially in Limassol

For us who live here in Cyprus ...not surprising ....as the people of Limassol have repeatedly not adhered to lock down measures or mask wearing , distancing etc

What ever has happened or why...the B117 variant ...is now here in Cyprus

So, it could have been brought to Cyprus from a number of different countries.
