Hi Everyone, Can anyone tell me where I can buy reasonable quality pots (not plastic) at a price where I don't need to take out a mortgage!!!!!! I am starting a garden from scratch and the prices I have seen have been staggering. Also, decent tree cuttings (not for the pots) that might grow quite quickly. Any suggestions for starting from scratch gratefully received, but need to note we are in Ineia - about 600m above sea level - so it is windy and cold in the winter. Many thanks, |

Hi Tina, As you know we also staarted from scratch with the garden. In answer to your first question regarding pots...... Hmmmm....... Well...... you are unlikely to find any reasonably priced pots here (hence the reason for the Cypriots using any old container for planting) However the keenest prices we found were at Begoniaa when they either have a sale or when they have an import container come in from China etc. It's just a case of waiting and keeping an eye on them till they get some in. Regarding trees etc. As a general rule: Anything that grows fast is cheap. If it grows slow it's expensive. Hence things like Eucalyptus are cheap but palms with the exception of 1 or 2 (Washingtonia being a good example of a cheaper one) are megga bucks. We have found the best way is to beg, borrow or steal plants/cuttings from others. I have loads of stuff at the moment that you are welcome to come and have a rake through to see if there is anything you fancy. Not much big stuff but have certainly got some grasses and tree and other seedlings that you may like. We can also give you a "heads up" on what survives up here and what doesn't or needs winter protection. It's about time you came round for coffee (or stronger) anyway. Brian |
