Can anyone please advise what are the indications that the sand in the pool filter needs replacing. This is the first year that I have had a problem in maintaining the correct balance ( PH , Chlorine etc.) for any length of time and I seem to be using twice as much chlorine than last year. |

First off, are you using the same Chlorine as last year, if you have switched to the Chinese stuff then that's the problem, how do you dispense the chlorine. Also chlorine will disappear quickly in windy weather, how old is the sand filter, sand should last 4 years and longer if back washed regularly. Geoff. |

Thanks for the reply Geoff. Problem now seems to be resolved. The Total Alkalinity and Cyanuric Acid levels were too high and I had to dump half the water. Seems it is not uncommon. |
