Search past postings , and do the sums that apply to your car.

I decided to sell my car before moving over, and bought one in Paphos , no regrets.

There's no general answer as it depends on car values etc.

We were not going to bring our's out but when the prices dropped in the UK so low it became sensible to ship it over. We reckon to have saved around €4000.

The other threads will guide you. Check your UK realisable value, shipping costs, import costs and then compare to equivalent car over here which will be much dearer than the UK.

We are at the final stages of selecting a removals company and read this interesting sentence in Orbitcy's services page:-

"Restrictions on the importation of motor cars, motorcycles, and other forms of transport vary greatly from one country to another, even within the European Community. There is no 'general rule' that can be applied and proper advice must be sought before committing yourself to ship a vehicle to another country. By example, restrictions here in Cyprus apply to eligibility for relief from Vehicle Excise Duty, an 'internal' excise duty, placed outside the scope of EC Free Movement directives . As an engine cubic capacity based duty, cars with high-capacity engines may not be economically viable to import, unless the importer is able to claim 'personal' relief."

If you are retired and not working you can claim complete exemption.
