Post subject:  Vistit to Peyia April 2011

Hi All
Hope all are well
I must say this is a very good forum and from reading some of the posts, full of very helpful people.

Myself and 6 other family members will be visiting Peyia in the beginning of April this year for a few weeks. We have rented a Villa and have a hire car also. This is the first time we are visiting Cyprus so we are all so excited. My 3 year old Nephew shouts 'Cyprus' every time he sees a swimming pool or the sea! My son (6mnts) has a navy blue swimming suit with an florescent Octopus.

What I was after was some advice and also some information.

As we will be driving around, I have heard the driving is 'rough' in Cyprus, so I would like to know if you guys have any tips for us as we will have two kids onboard so their safety is paramount. Also, what's parking like?

Our villa is at 12 Petr.Mavromichall , does anyone have any information about this Villa/street? For example, ease of access, condition, close amenities etc

In terms of shopping, would people know the going rate for the essentials such as Milk, bread, cereal etc?

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. :D

Regards
Vinesh

If you are staying in Peyia
you wont be far from any shops or pubs , coral bay Is just down the hill

Hello, welcome to the forum and yes it is a good one with friendly and helpful people.
Suggest a 4 wheel drive for car rental as it enables you to go off road to places like the Akamas national park and to the dams which are spectacular. The roads are a mixture of motorway( between Paphos and Limmasol,Larnaca etc) dual carriageways, single carriageways often very badly surfaced and full of potholes so a sturdy car is a must and tracks that are really rough. There is a very poor standard of driving compared with the Uk (where there are idiots we know) so you need to keep your wits about you and don't assume they are going to stop at a red light or a road junction! Just keep your eyes peeled and be aware of it.I enjoy driving in Cyprus as it reminds me of the dodgems at the funfair when I was a girl!!
Don't know which street it is in Peyia as there are so many new ones sprung up in the past 8 years or so but the village itself has everything you need.
A rough price list as follows;-

Sandwich loaf = euro 1.90
Litre of milk = " 1.20
Butter expensive but on special you can save money
Veg and salad stuff much cheaper than the UK and better quality
Cheddar cheese ridiculous price everywhere
shopping otherwise about on a par with uk if you shop around.
UK label stuff can be expensive but many uk shops opened up so local supermarkets are lowering prices to compete.
Swings and roundabouts really.
Eating out cheaper than the UK in most places but there are some expensive ones around.
You just have to look around and try places.
Hope you have a good holiday

Hi Neil, Hi Beverley

Many thanks for the help and information, as it is our first time it is so valuable for us.

We have a 4x4 hired so will be OK on the dodgy roads and also the off roads.

I was reading about people that book holidays in Cyprus only to find out when they get there that the Villa does not exist, hence the reason why I would like information about the villa we have booked. The villa owners do seem very genuine but there is a tiny tiny red light going off in the back of my head somewhere.

Hopefully someone will be able to give my mind some peace. Also, any other useful information would be much appreciated. :D

Thanks again, hopefully we will have a fantastic time, can't wait. :celebrate

Who did you book the villa through? Was it a villa rental company or a direct ad?Is it a British owner or Cypriot?Have they given you a phone number that is a mobile or a landline.?
There is a company in Peyia called Cyprus villas who are very professional and may know the road and villa you are talking about.

Hi Beverley
We booked the villa through an ad on eBay. The seller have 100% feedback and is a power seller, however these rating are not from hiring out the villa but from their other business. I am told the owner is British and lives in Cyprus, and have been given a mobile phone number which is an International number.

I will look for the company you mentioned,

Thanks.
