A surveyor would be able to point you in the right direction I would think.Ask at the Municipality if they have one in the surveyor /engineers office.

Do you mean the round wheel on the end of a stick that clicks the distance on a clock as you push it along?

lol on some of the replies
which is why I love this forum
any more thoughts that might help me to accurately check the distance of something then please
I am here!
I have been told that these things are rarer than hens teeth ;)
but maybe there is another tool I could use to give me an accurate reading if not one of these
many thanks

It's just called a Surveyor's wheel or simple version is Trundle wheel. I've used one in my job back in the UK. Really not sure where you'd get one here. I would probably start at DIY places, or builders merchant.

All civil engineering company and most property developers will have one, so you should be able to get one somewhere.

Why not improvise & use a bicycle?
Just measue the outside diameter of a wheel, then calculate the circumference.
Make a mark on the side of the tyre with say Snopake, then by counting the revolutions of the wheel & then using the total to multiply the circumference dimension, you can compute the distance travelled.
Failing that, find an old wheel & a stick to attach it to!!

I cant help where to get one, but passed a Municipality surveyor ( I assume) on the Tsada Kallepia road, hanging out of his window whilst driving along using one at the same time !!!!

If you have a smart phone, I'm positive there is an App that you can download for it.... there are all sorts of pedometer apps so you could just walk it with your phone and test it.
