Post subject: | Possible move to Paphos in April 2016 |
Hello all! I know it seems like a long way away, but due to family commitments I'm unable to move now (Or I would!) We were originally looking at Ayia Napa, but Paphos has a few important advantages in that it's open all year round, and is served by Luton Airport in the UK which makes trips home to family very much quicker and cheaper than Larnaca would. We're a married couple aged 51 and 47, both with enough income to be able to retire in reasonable comfort to Cyprus with our two small Dogs, and wanted to be within walking distance of the local beaches, nightlife, decent shops etc. Would any of you be able to suggest some nice places? |

Coral Bay would fit that brief. Polis a bit like Ayia Napa in the winter but still a nice area along with Latsi. |

Coral bay or Peyia is your first choice. Bianca |

Depends whether you want to live near the town (Paphos) Also whether you want most of your neighbours to be Brits. |

It really does depend on the lifestyle you want...and Polis is nothing like Ayia Napa in the winter... it is a traditional Cypriot town and there are always a few tavernas and coffee shops who are open! Although we do own an apartment over in Kato Paphos we have rented a bigger place over in Polis, although I would say you do not have the choice of properties you have in other areas. It is quieter over here, a slower pace of life, very rural and another major plus for us, much more dog friendly...we have no hassle with our dog at all, walking her on the beach and taking her into restaurants (admitably the outside dining areas). Paphos is a 40 minute drive and we just make sure we have a list of things to do when we pop over..every couple of weeks..We have a large-ish Paps, loads of choice for eating out and to be honest everything we need..the small cottage hospital is very good but for serious ailments they will send you to Paphos. There is a lively little expat community if you want that kind of thing but nothing like you will find in some other areas, in the main this is still very much Cyprus. |

Kathikas 100% Bit cooler in the summer and warmer than the UK in the winter. Great views, nice people and not too many holiday makers. 20 minutes to Coral bay and the same to Polis. Great restaurants and beautiful village. What more would one want? |

But how would the simple folk of Kathikas feel about swinging parties in their neck of the woods |

Still waiting for someone to come along with a reply to where the OP can be within "walking distance" of some decent shops. I suppose that's all down to interpretation of what's considered to be decent? For me, it would be a bakery, butchers, chemists, supermarket, mini-market or a large kiosk but we all have different needs... |

Probably Peyia would suit your needs |

Peyia would cover most of his wants except for walking distance to the beach apart from maybe the very lowest part of Peyia. Then of course there's always Coral bay although that is more touristy and not really ideal for full time living. |

I don't see Peyia as being the place for a lively night life, to me it's very quiet especially in winter and just the way we like it. Places open for a drink and food but not many and certainly not for people who enjoy a wild night life. A nice quiet way of life and hope it stays that way. Christmas eve last year half the places were closed anyway and we only saw 4 people on the walk up to Peyia and none going home, and that's from lower Peyia. |

Peyia is quiet for sure and not just in winter if you can shoose the right place and be aware of the barking dogs issue and once you know of it you can avoid it.. we sadly didnt know of it when we arrived 4 months ago but we do love the village - it gives us exactly what we want |

Kato Paphos, near Agapinorus Street/Big Church would fit the bill regarding shops |
