Has anyone travelled from UK by rail, road or boat?
Can this be done?

I know that in 2007, Reesy's brother-in-law did it.

I *think* he drove to Italy and then caught a boat to CY

Not sure if this is still possible

Yes it can be done but not cheaply

In 1988 I did it in the opposite direction from Cyprus to UK. Ferry from Limassol to Greece, drove to France then ferry to Dover.

When we were moving out 10 years ago, we looked at travelling as passengers on a cargo ship with our container. Journey would have taken 17 days (due to the many port stops) and cwould have cost in the region of £3,000 PER PERSON

I believe the 'Grimaldi' link from Effsie provides offers a good service

I did this in 1997, from Cyprus to the UK and back, but then there was a ferry service from Limassol to Greece. I enjoyed it immensely and would do it again if the ferry service was restored.

Now the only option is, I believe, the Grimaldi ferry which stops both Limassol and Salerno. However it may still be possible to put your car on a freighter in Greece and send it back unaccompanied to Limassol, while you fly to Cyprus from Athens.

You can avoid the motorways and see the real Italy and France, but the Italian coast road north from Salerno is something of an eye opener, with many third world prostitutes and eastern European beggars seemingly at every junction. I doubt it has improved given the mass immigration that has descended oin the country.

Cheap it is not and never was - but that's not really the point.

. And you didn't ask the price??

1974 we drove back from here to Scotland, ferry to Mersin (Turkey) when it was still available, brilliant experience for a youngster.

It can be done from the UK to here now again via Grimaldi as stated, driving down then let the freighter/roro bring the car and fly over. It can be a great trip and wonderful experience.
