Just wondered if there is any law on dogs, especially when it comes to some of the larger varieties who are classed as "dangerous dogs" in many other countries and are not allowed out without lead and muzzle?

Good Morning Trish,

My apologies for the delay. According the Cyprus Law for Dogs 184(1)/2002 the following dogs:

Pit Bull Terrier and American Pit Bull
Papanese Tossa
Dogo Argentine
Fila Brazileiro

They have to be insure against damage against another person and/or their property and when they are out of their house/yard they must wear a muzzle and a leach held by a person older than 16 years of age.

Best Regards,

Haris Kalogirou

Hello Trish,
I think that they also have to be microchipped ,have all of their injections and a licence.
Dog nuisance laws also apply in that if your dog causes nuisance barking too much and or aggressive behaviour etc a complaint can be lodged and a visit from the police is or munincipality is possible.

Thanks to both your replies which helps as there is a Pit Bull that is taken over a common walkway not on a lead and certainly not on a leash as I had a confrontation with the dog as it came charging over whilst I was walking mine (all on leads), so now I know, I take it I could call the police if it happens again as I felt threatened as well as my dogs.
