Have been told by my developer that our title deeds will be ready within the next two weeks. I contacted my solicitor mainly to get the original stamped contract and to find out what paper work is needed.

Apparently it is all changing within the next week and no one seems to know what paper work is required exactly.

Are you any the wiser?

Hi What is changing within the next wek - the procedure for getting deeds? I was not aware of any changes but I will make enquiries and revert back.

Apparently (according to my solicitor who is based in Limassol), the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. In the land registry (or whatever it is called here) they are saying that you need a form from the administration department. The administration department are saying that this form is no longer needed.

So at present the documentation I have ready is:-

Pink/Yellow Slip
Passports + copies
Original Contract
Receipts for all utility bills (apparently the on-line version isn't enough and has to be direct from the main office)

I haven't been up the administration department yet, but plan to go there during the week to see if they can help.

All I want to do is get our title deeds (if we have enough money left that is because we have been told by the developer that the land registry is not taking a happy medium but going by what the big developers were selling at the time). Ours was with a small/medium developer so got a good deal and no there was no under the table money passed, everything was up front apart from the extras which we did not ask for a receipt for - ignorance at the time, but nothing too major apart from a few extra cupboards, a/c units and fly screens.

Would really be grateful if you find out anything to post it as it is confusing. Two weeks is up and still nothing from the developer.

THOSE buying property in Cyprus often encounter delays and problems when trying to obtain their all important Title Deeds. In one case I know of personally, an elderly widow has been waiting for the Title Deeds for the property that she and her late husband purchased back in 1982! - and delays in excess of 10 years are not uncommon.

To clarify the legal process by which Title Deeds are obtained, a free seminar will be held on 29th October in Paphos. The event will be presented by Savvas Savvides, a partner with the law firm of Michael Kyprianou & Co. The Cyprus Interior Minister, Neoclis Sylikiotis, has been invited to attend along with a number of property developers.

The seminar will present a step by step process for obtaining Title Deeds for property in Cyprus together with actions that may be taken if one of those steps fails. At the end of the seminar there will be a question and answer session.

The aims of the seminar are to clarify the legal process for obtaining Title Deeds and to dispel much of the misinformation and bad press in recent UK media coverage and incorrect information being given by some property developers and real estate agents.

The event is being run in conjunction with the Bank of Cyprus and it is hoped that it will be the first of many similar events to be held in Paphos and other areas of Cyprus where Title Deeds are an issue.

The seminar is completely free of charge and anyone may attend. It will be held on Wednesday 29th October in the Conference Room of the Paphos main Branch of the Bank of Cyprus at Evagora Pallikaridi Avenue and Tselepos Corner, Paphos. The timing of the event has yet to be confirmed, but it is anticipated that it will start at 6:00pm and last approximately 3 hours.
