Does anyone know where on-line you can get a list of all the candidates?
Geoff.

You might struggle with that ambition Geoff!

Better you try asking at your local council offices.

Do you mean your local ones or all the municipalities?

A thought whilst on this subject. Would Brits who get elected in the municipal elections have to stand down when the UK leaves the EU? Or is voting in the local elections part of the bi-lateral agreement between the UK and Cyprus pre-dating the EU?

Since the elected councillors will only be standing for two and a half years this time instead of the usual 5 (due to re-organisation of the municipalities) They will just manage to get their 'time n' if Article 50 isn't invoked till the end of March 2017

Wasn't the move to reduce it to two and a half years from five years cancelled?
If so I wonder what the answer to Clive's question is!
Geoff.

I am intrigued to know why you want to know who is standing in every municipality Geoff.

Just curiosity Zorba, plus I would also like to know how many will be elected unopposed.
Is there any reason why I should not know?
Geoff.

No reason why you should not know but I would imagine you would know very few of them or their affiliations so the knowledge would not really be of much use.

Having attended a couple of candidate meetings recently in Tala, my question would be how on earth can voters make a decision as to which candidate to vote for?

The one's looking for re-election could only reiterate achievements, but provided scant insight into what their objectives were for the forthcoming term, should they be successful.

The situation for the new candidates was even worse, as beyond being introduced, little information was imparted. Local knowledge will help the nationals in this respect obviously.

In short, both categories of candidate were completely lacking in any form of manifesto, but the refreshments they provided were well received.

So for an Expat, there are some similarities with the UK! ;)

I'm loath to mention the phrase; You pays your money... for obvious reasons, this is Cyprus afterall.

True. I will be voting for the ones I have got to know over the years - no problem.
You would have thought, however, that the newspapers would publish lists of all the
candidates and their affiliations country wide.
Maybe no one is interested?
Geoff.
