I noticed on my last BoC statement a charge of €150 for Security Codes Charge which I haven't noticed before, so I asked BoC what it was and their reply is

"Regarding your query, please note that the Security Codes Charge relates to an annual charge for accepting outgoing or internal transfer instructions from clients. For any further clarifications you may contact your account branch directly."

Does anyone know what this is, before I go into the bank and query it.

Thanks

John B ;)

Its charged to accounts capable of making international transactions (almost all accounts) and the purpose is written in the relpy above. It is designed to screw more cash out of unsuspecting foreigners (mostly) who are not here often enough to visit the branch (IBU) to reclaim it. I am aware they are stopping reclaims so be quick.

Just another screw..I have just descovered spurious charges for 49 (euros) so a close eye is needed on accounts.....

Neil - so true!!!

Tanny, 'thanks' for the explanation, it fits us exactly, I'll go in to the IBU when we get over, kick up a fuss (and leave frustrated :rocky and no further forward, but better for venting my feelings :rain ).

After all...........It's only money (did I just say that?????)

Cheers

Dont wait till you come over, call them at once as it appears they put a time scale on the reclaim period.

BANK OF CYPRUS QUERY
by Mick Cuz » 04 Apr 2013 21:01

Yesterday I received the following e-mail from the BOC who have charged me 150 Euros for 'Security Codes Charges'. Wasn't there a previous thread about this? What was the outcome with people who complained to the BOC?
Many thanks

Dear Mr. Couzens,

Thank you for your message.

Regarding your query, please note that the Security Codes Charge relates to an annual charge for accepting outgoing or internal transfer instructions from clients. For any further clarifications you may contact your account branch directly.

Yours sincerely,

As I'm now in Paphos, I went today to the Bank of Cyprus in Chlorakas, they advised me to go to the International Section of the BOC in the old town, so I did.

I was flatly refused any refund of the 150 Euros they deducted from my account in February. I asked why I wasn't notified and they replied "we put it on our web site". And added "We (BOC) are going through difficult times and anyway, it is too late to refund you as we closed any refunds on March 15". They said "everyone had to pay these fees that had Cyprus accounts but lived abroad and had to do IBU banking". I asked to close my account as I wasn't happy the way they just took out the money! They said no-one can close any accounts at the moment.

Unbelievable!!!! Did anyone else have any issues with these 'Security Code Fees'? And if yes, were you refunded?

Thanks

MC

Mick,

You've had the same problem, but it seems they have it set in cement now.

May see you when we are over in May.

Cheers
