I was sickened to read this article in today's cy mail.

A near neighbour of ours has one of these breeds, and it too has attacked children in the area. Again the child was hospitalised and endured plastic surgery. As far as I am aware no action taken against the dog owner.

Enough said.

the breed is never the problem, just people don't know what they take as a pet
and they don't raise their dogs in a well manner

I agree that it will depend on how the owner will discipline their respective pets. We should have to think that the responsibility will always be at the owner of the pets.

Sadly, most of the dogs are only taken by new owners because they are the latest "trend" in the dog world. Nobody had ever heard of Akita's in Cyprus up until a couple of years ago and now - they are everywhere...

Most of these new owners have no idea how to handle a dog let alone which end to feed one! All they want to do is be able to drag it out once in a while when it suits them and look tough with their mates. Then they wonder why the dog that's never had any attention suddenly turns on a child who pulls its' tail or its' ears, pinches it or kicks it...
