Hope the dog makes a good recovery. Unfortunately there are a lot of poisonings about at the moment. Could you please let me know where in Kamares did the dog pick up poison? I can then post a warning on our Facebook Poison Alert Page. |

Is this poison being laid specifically for dogs or is it to kill vermin and dogs being dogs will who eat anything that remotely resembles food, are being the unconscious victims? 2. In other posts, owners say dogs were taken to vets and ‘antidote’ was given. Is there a ‘generic’ antidote for poisoning or is it the same poison that is being used each time and the vets immediately know what it is? 3. Are cats also being poisoned or are they avoiding eating the stuff? 4. Is this poison readily available ‘over the counter’ or is it ‘homemade’? I hope your dog makes a full recovery |

Dave, To be realistic I think it is a bit of both - some of the insecticides here are lethal - I know because a neighbour's dog got poisoned and she knew exactly where to come to so we rushed her to the vet and saved her thank goodness, but in this case it was only because an empty plot had been sprayed and she went on it as she is left to roam the streets. I have heard that if there is a vendetta between families then pets are deliberately poisoned and it always seems worse this time of year with the hunting season - bit of jealousy going on I think. I have also been told that poison is put down for the feral cats and as you say dogs being dogs will eat anything nice and smelly. Lanate is one of the worst and although now banned it can still be bought (so I am told). The antidote from what I have seen is to make them bring everything up and out - both ends, as some poisons literally burn the vital organs of the animal bit by bit so it is extremely painful for them until their system shuts down completely. |
