Thought I would start off with this, basically a reminder to be careful when on medication

On my way back yesterday on CY flight I was asked to assist as a lady was vomiting, plenty of sick bags and poly bags appeared.

She was actually diabetic, after I had a chance to talk to her,
She had not eaten and did not fancy the in flight meal, carried out usual checks and after some orange juice she was much improved.

How she managed to produce the amount she did is a mystery.

Also same flight, young lad maybe 20 ish was being sick, he had a major operation prior to holiday and was on Tramadol 4 times a day for pain, parents with him, they had read the leaflet and decided to stop taking the medication a day before flight, no consultation with doctor, this resulted in high blood pressure 190/95, shivers/shakes etc, told him to take one of the tablets and an hour later he was much improved.

Be careful when deciding to change dose or stop taking prescribed medication, if unhappy consult your doctor

You never know the reason and can happen any time.

Although I wish people didn't fall ill on flights I think most would be surprised how often incidences do occur.

I cringe when I hear the tanoy say " is there a DR or nurse on board, we have an ill passenger" I always wait for a few minutes to see if someone else goes forward and I leave them too it unless they need assistance.
Probably like John as a frequent flyer I have actually had a number of passengers to assist and so far this year there has been two, thats my average per year it always happens to me  On both ocassions the passengers were elderly and shouldn't have been flying at all because they were just not fit, one was after surgery and the other was a recent discharge from hospital with a heart complaint

Just a reminder, if in doubt always check with your Dr and ask if you are fit to fly, sitting in one position for a long time, pressure in the cabin can all cause problems for those who may not be a 100%.

Also if you fly knowingly unwell you are a liability to yourself, the other passengers on board and the crew. Furthermore it is very selfish to put others in this position.
